Watch our three player game of Clash of Cultures: Monumental Edition, published by ‪@WizKidsOfficial‬. Please turn on Klingon subtitles in case I missed any rules. Please remember to subscribe to my channel. There's plenty more CoC and other 4x content.
From ‪@boardgamegeek‬: In Clash of Cultures, each player leads a civilization from a single settlement to a mighty empire. Players must explore their surroundings, build large cities, research advances and conquer those who stand in the way. The game features a modular board for players to explore, 48 distinct advances, seven mighty wonders, and loads of miniatures and cards. The winner will create a culture that will be remembered and admired for millennia.

I love Clash of Cultures and love watching people play this game. I've noticed a few minor errors in the rules which I shall point out with timestamps as you mentioned during the start of the video. At 1:31:37, I believe it was Jeff who said he's using the Influence Culture action to attempt to flip the purple fortress in his city. Rob seems to say that you can't "Influence Culture" a building in your own city, but you actually can. (Reference at page 16 of the rulebook) This one is more of a nitpick: At many points during the video, when any of you are collecting resources with your cities, you use the words "Generate" or "Produce" but the proper term in this game is "Collect". (Reference at page 11 of the rulebook).

On the influence culture point you are correct: I was remembering the "An influenced city (i.e. one with an enemy Building) can only target itself and may not boost the roll." But I failed to remember that "You may target your own cities to remove enemy Cultural Influence." So, he could have used a "non-influenced" city to influence his other "influenced" city and he could have boosted (if he had the culture) that roll/range. Good catch on that. As to the second point, that IS nitpicking! But... you are correct and I promise I will try to remember to use and remind others to use "collect" in any future videos. At least Jeff wasn't chewing as much in this one! Thanks for watching AND for the comments.

Also a nitpick, it’s pronounced Evil Jeff.

Great video! Subscribed. Now I can criticize 😛 First things first, 14:50 The blue player forgot to pay for his advance (writing). 43:30 Blue made just two actions his turn. 1:02:40 Purple collected wrong exactly zero times, he built this academies on his previous turn. But this time blue collects one resource less than he should. 1:09:40 Blue forgot to collect 1 idea. 1:39:50 Red could recruit three units with one action, because that city was happy. No need to recruit again. People talk about rules mistakes, but no one talks about bad plays. Sorry if you don't like it, but I believe it's much more important. YMMV. I am not qualified to talk about strategy here, just simple, often mathematical things. 2:27, 32:31, 1:07:40 Never double activate a city unless you have a very good reason to, and players did it three times here for no real reason. 13:50 Red player made an advance with two gold and his next action (in the same turn!) was to collect two food. WHY? Also, two food is a horrible gain from the leadership card, and late game is much better time to have an extra action. 16:42 Volcano gives you more points for destroyed buildings than you would get for them in the end, no one can take this points away, and it's not crippling when you have four cities, so it's usually a very good event. 18:06 When the red player recruited the second settler for a happy face, I would also recruit the third one for food to have better action economy, but that's not an objectively better decision. 34:09 Purple player made his second city happy as a third action, then collected a happy face (in a different city!), built a port and made an another city happy next turn. Action economy strikes again. 37:55 The blue player didn't even try to SELL that settler. Why? 46:07 So, the red player settles deep out of his map slice and doesn't even try to raise a defense? With all this draft and nationalism? For other players, especially blue, it's much easier to take this city now than to defend everything against it, you know. 53:40 The end of the third age is a vulnerable moment for the purple player. The blue one can take roads as his free advance, make himself the first player, recruit one infantry and double move with roads to capture the big purple city, and it would take at least two turns to take it back. I won't do this most likely (I see no way to actually keep that city; on the other hand, purple seems to be developing faster - maybe it IS time to strike), but it's a VERY dangerous possibility that purple completely ignores. 1:06:58 Well, yes. I won a game without storage once, but it was maya with mountains all around. What's amazing here is that red has plains everywhere and still... 1:07:40 In addition to double activation (is red aware barbarians can't attack him without event? If purple intended to play mercenaries he already could), why draft for two faces when you have enough resources? EACH face is already worth two resources with economic liberty. Also, why didn't he choose to collect from a different city once he understood there will be no second ore? 1:14:30 Why did red choose a different city to increase happiness the second time? He just wasted a happy face next round. 1:15:40 Why use gold for advance when you have ideas? 1:17:00 Red influences the barbarian city without any culture to boost his roll. Probability of failure and wasted card and culture is 2/3. No, it was not worth a shot at all. 1:27:50 Red could recruit in his unhappy city and attack with two infantry, or recruit the second one in the conqured city, making that counterattack next turn virtually impossible to succeed. 1:48:55 What does purple mean they can't stop? They both understand blue wins if they continue their war. They both successfully took back their cities. Why not just negotiate peace? Edit: spelling.

This. Is. Amazing. I can’t wait to check all these time stamps out. You’re right, once rules are under command there’s still all the strategic gaffs that need to be improved upon. You should teach a course on this game. 🍻 And, of course, thanks for subscribing! 🙏🏼

Fantastic play through here, the realization at the end that Clash isn’t necessarily a war game, but a game of civilizations where war may be needed, but always comes at great cost was a fascinating one. This game is very solid as a two player game, maybe more than most, but it really starts to shine at three. I look forward to more clash videos with great anticipation, thanks for the hard work!!

Thanks for another video! I haven't finished the video yet, but on the 56th minute, JB (JP?) placed a barbarian city between him and Evil Jeff. The settlement was one space away from each of their cities. This is illegal. Even though JB could not place that settlement 2 spaces away from his cities, he still had several other spaces (mostly forests) to choose from that were 2 spaces away from the others. I felt bad for Evil Jeff because he lost that city on his next turn due to that barbarian.

Hi there, great video! There were several mistakes against Evil Jeff! Apart from the Barbarian settlement, there were other times where he lost a resource he shouldn't have, or didn't get settlers... I feel bad for Evil Jeff 🙈 Anyway I really enjoyed watching, please keep them coming!

You and his Mom may the only two in the whole world who feel bad for him! Also, there was no official end so he didn't officially lose. Seriously, though, he did not read the rules until after about 4 playthroughs so he wasn't up to speed to catch everything. I was concentrating on trying to monitor all of us for rules flubs, but also trying to play strategically. Given all that, it is quite difficult to nail everything in this game correctly. I think we have improved as we've gone on in later videos. And I hope to get another play in soon. We love competing against each other. Thanks for watching and commenting. Keep em coming!

@@fenirob Oh, that explains why you were constantly telling him "that's legal" or "that's not legal", almost with a grouchy tone, 'cause he didn't study! 😆 Anyway I get it, I often teach my friends the rules of the games we play and I'm always checking for rules mistakes, so often that it becomes hard to focus on your own game! And some rule mistakes are so obvious once you see them, like it was so clear to me that you weren't getting a settler after losing a settlement, or the taking cubes from the supply...but last week I surprised myself moving an army in the same turn after a fight!! 🙀 But despite all the details, I find this game to be a real masterpiece, and I hope you manage to bring a 3- or 4- player game (with expansion) to the table soon!
