I think I can speak for everyone viewing....don't worry about the videos being boring. They truly aren't. Most of us haven't got a brake van to restore so every detail is great to watch

The underside, inward facing edges and contact points with the brackets (maybe even through the bolt holes too) all want at least 1 coat of paint on the scaffold planks. Currently you’ve got paint only on the top and outward facing sides, but those are the two places where moisture won’t be sat for long periods. It’ll get in, under and behind those running boards and stay there. I’d unbolt them, whip them off and cover the whole piece, so that there’s no “bare wood” colour visible - I know it’s treated, but paint lasts longer. Just friendly advice.
@MalcolmCrabbe
@MalcolmCrabbe 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, often it's easier to apply the protective coatings to the boards before fitting them. Especially as rounding over the edges has exposed untreated wood, and you are now reliant on just the paint keeping the moisture out. As for the videos being boring - far from it. Besides if anyone thinks you are waffling they can either play the video at 2x speed or just jump ahead to the time lapse. Its your channel, your content.

Here's a tip. That concrete you are using is a very expensive way of doing it. Buy bags of sharp sand and a bag of cement. Far far cheap. You are effectively laying a screed. It well set better and far less likely to crack round the edges
@CustomiZe_
@CustomiZe_ 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah i made a lot of my garden railway platforms with that method. Although one started to crack but I think that's because I put too much sand in it 😅
@WardleRestorations
@WardleRestorations 2 жыл бұрын
I was advised to steer clear of cement as it’s more lightly to crack than super strong concrete!
@gs425
@gs425 2 жыл бұрын
@@WardleRestorations You can't use cement on its own, I guess you've never done any building work before. But mixing it yourself with sharp sand (and gravel if you don't need fine finish) is much much cheaper and will give better result
@gs425

The veranda is looking good, but if you add an extra inch or two inches of concrete, it will crack and break up, so why not put new floor boards / planking over the top or even a single sheet of marine plywood ?
@WardleRestorations

Why would concrete crack when half the brake van underneath is concrete and the slabs at each end are concrete?

Interesting choice of shunting loco for the 43, lol. Just wondering are you hoping to get it into a running condition (so it looks presentable to run) or do you hope to get it in a pristine condition so it looks brand new ?

The plan is to get it to a presentable condition, which is still plenty of work, don't want it to look too new and then lose its historic feel haha

Sorry, Ollie. I can't donate anything to your channel. I've pre-ordered Hinton Manor in BR Black of Dapol status from Hattons. She costs £140.72 and is expected to be on shelf in June next month, so until my payment has gone through, there will be no wheel-spin from me for a long time. Keep at the good work.
