Thanks Nice one Ollie. I'd go with the square washers as they will also cover any old, worn hole, once they've been filled with stopping to prevent them adding to any shifting in tension and shaking loose. Morning! If you go with what Andy 741 said, a rectangle plate drilled for both, you could hide it by carefully chiselling a chanel into the wood for it to sit in, then seal around the edges with something like an exterior caulking, if you can smooth it out nicely it won't be noticeable, then you can use the round washer and be totally original! (Sorry if thats a bit rivet-counterie) Another great vid, love that you are using barge/boat paint, I'm just doing my first boat jobs, they have a world of stuff that crosses over to rail, car and house restoration. When you use a paint roller, you are supposed toput the paint into a tray, then you can load the roller by working it in the tray of paint, rather than as you did, dip one end, and try to spread it!-- - Safety rail bracket washers - I'd use the square ones, it spreads the load more.

Yeah i would just get a paint roller tray and a couple of larger paint rollers from b&q or something because otherwise you'll be there for days with a brush or the mini roller.

I would do belt and braces. Fill the hole with new oversized dowels and drill them out with the correct sized hole. Then use the square washer with a nylock nut.

Hi Olly, we think the square washers are better. Also remember to paint the bottom of the doors this will stop rising damp/ water ingress. Another great video mate.

Your aluminium primer looked very thin. The stuff I normally use is very opaque and you can't see much of the timber through it. I would also recommend flatting the gloss back between coats so the paint adheres to the previous layer properly. I'm into wagon restoration at the bluebell so picked up these tops from there. Matt

I would go for square washers Ollie, with external mastic. When painting work from one side to other, as on the rare warmer days there is less chance of the paint rippling, you seam to work a bit had hock (one area to another) when painting, I have just repainted my narrowboat roof worked from bow to stern left to right.

@@WardleRestorations 😂😂🤣🤣just glad Ollie your enjoying your new projects + your working with some of my old mates 👍, when I first joined the CVR in 1979, we used to stay around John Stevens house (more he had a old caravan, in his garden & off to one of the two pub's in Topplesfield, for chicken & chips in a plastic basket, with too many pints (ask Vernon (kettle department) or Andy (S&T) about decorating rose bushes😵‍💫) Andy's breakfast was two headache tablets 😒

very good video, progress is coming along nicely, thankyou for sharing this journey, my two bobs worth on the washers is maybe a metal 1/4 inch rectangle plate say 2"x6" that has two holes drilled for both bolts then round spring/split washers then nuts, similar to the bracket on the roof corner above your head in the video, all the best and look forward to watching you progress.

Great video to watch and see your progress. The aluminium primer looked a bit thin. As I've found out in the past it might have separated out and takes an age to stir up again. Also one more top tip I was shown - prior to painting over paint, give it a quick sand and then wipe down with white spirit on an old rag as it gives it a good key for the next coat of paint. Anyway, have fun and all the bets with your projects. I look forward to seeing them progress. You're doing a grand job. :)
