Sounded as possibly the second loco was slipping a bit, but with eight coaches in tow they didn't seem to be doing that badly

8 DMU vehicles maybe heavier than 8 mk1s? Was doing a very good job if so.

I believe there is an on board video here on KZbin of this train where they started off from the bottom, the driver was having trouble with them slipping or he was mucking around with the power handle and they were not liking the climb, but it soon got back to doing the job well. I used to buy Transport Video Publishing Bi monthly vids and they filmed a 4 x 20 on Mk1's at the top in twilight and the roadshow in the front 2 coaches cheered over the Thrash. I may upload that one scene if I can transfer it from VHS some day.

They looked fine to me and the driver certainly wasn’t concerned as he sipped his brew

I thought the last Class 20s were withdrawn by 1992; their demise didn't happen overnight...

This was a special event and may have been bought out of retirement

Some were retained for special duties for a while longer; 20138 withdrawn 11.95, 066 lasted until 08.99.
