When I was about 6 I was taken to New St station, I think to see someone off. The train about to leave from the platform I was on was being pulled by what was then a new diesel locomotive. Of course it was a class 37 - THE diesel loco... I was close to it when it suddenly opened it's throttle and roared. I jumped out of my skin, I'd never heard anything like it, the sound went right through me, it was such a thrill. What a sound, same sort of sensation as the best rock band ever... still can't get enough of it even now. Cheers for the upload, amazing sounds...
