Great Video mate. Those EE507 traction motors sound fantastic, and the Westinghouse model DH-25 air compressor sounds wonderful. The new AC motors and propulsion equipment these cars will get will defiantly kill the characteristics of this class. This is really classic stuff.

The Westinghouse DH25 air compressor was in production for many years and the importance of an air compressor is to make sure the train brakes efficiently.

If you liked the sound of EE507 traction motors notching up, you may not remember the wonderful sound produced by the old MV339 motors (which powered virtually the whole of the erstwhile Southern Railway suburban system at one time). Equally so were the MV163 motors used on the main line Electrics to the South Coast in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. Manufactured under licence I believe, by both Metropolitan Vickers and English Electric to an original design by the British Thomson-Houston Company and probably due in part to the slightly higher gear ratio of these machines (roughly 3:1), they made the most spine tingling noises during the notching sequence but of course that was in the days when we made proper trains that sounded like proper trains and not 'plastic' ones!

315s and 313s have higher pitched sound but I feel you. Its more similar to the 317. Funnily enough the 455 and 317 have almost identical body shells

The EE507 motors always sound great on the 455's I hope that the news on those dull sounding Vossloh whatsit motors were just a big joke cause if they're not then I'll stop my enthusiasm with trains and I'll forget all about it

I have now seen a few trains with the new Vossloh motors. The Vossloh motors sound very similar to the English Electric motors, only a bit louder & with a high pitched overtone. It is a bit weird, as they are AC, but sound like they are DC. What's even wierder is that some trains on the Strawberry Hill line have in the end carriages EE507 motors & in one of the two middle carriages Vossloh motors (the other middle carriage is a trailer). All of the trains I have found so far with any Vossloh have both the old ticky compressor & the new hissy compressor. The trains that have had all their motors replaced with Vossloh have two compressors: an old ticky one in a trailer carriage & a new hissy one in a power carriage.

That's just the VF drive. Without it the Vossloh Kiepe traction would sound exactly the same as the EE507 motors (except when they have that Regen braking tho)
