Indeed, 45144 carried the Toton 'rabbit' as many others did. Similar to the March 'hare'. Nice to see 45118, an early recipient of the 'orange ohl' warning stripe on the peaks. Cheers for sharing, brilliant memories!

Well I never. 45144: a fairly regular machine on my commute trains in 1977/78 - 07.27 Luton St.Pancras & 17.06 St.Pancras to Bedford. Memories!!

The Royal Artilleryman...D67,originally. Peaks were and still are my favourites. Copped most of them, including the namers at Draycott ,rushing to and from St.Pancras. Can even remember them passing through to and from Manchester Central, (that ceased in 1967 or 8.)

Sorry to be a kill joy here, but your year is out, 45118 was withdrawn from service in May '87. However that aside cracking vid, 118 was also my favourite Peak, so thanks for posting.

Little did we realise the end of the real railway not the plastic profit driven shambles it is today

thats what happens when arf wits like beeching get in power ending steam was the worst thing they ever did hands up if you agree all say yes .
@paulanderson795 жыл бұрын
@@timothysmith8300 We can't blame the end of steam power for the demise of Britain's railway system. The fact that Beeching was closing lines as steam was being phased out is purely coincidental. The worst thing that happened subsequently was privatisation during and beyond the 1980's.
@prof.hectorholbrook46925 жыл бұрын
Agree totally.

When you wrote your comment in 2017, there were literally twice as many passenger journeys being made per year than in 1985. I think you're confused about when the "real railway" actually existed.
@beeble20034 жыл бұрын
@@timothysmith8300 I'm sorry but I really can't think of a better word than "moronic" to describe your suggestion that we should still be running our railways with steam locomotives.

Were they sparks coming from 45144 as it came to a stop? Strange, as I have a very vivd memory of waiting at York for an evening train back to Leeds as young kid and as it came in (hauled by a 45) an enormous shower of sparks started flying from the leading bogie as it entered the station.

Wonderful stuff. As has been said earlier, not 1988, as the Sprinter ruination of trans-pennine services had started. Looks more like 1987.

Amazing how much video and trains have changed since 1987. Wonderful locos, used to see them around Bristol and once or twice at Havant. Great video. would there be a chance of using some of the audio to go with a model rail video I am planning please?

And the following year 150/2 sprinters took over which were not fit for purpose for a long distance service

The 150/2 Sprinters actually took over all Liverpool-Scarborough services from the May 1987 timetable, so this would have been filmed early in 1987 very close to the takeover.

Nice footage of BR Blue York, but think this is pre 1990 because the centre roads are still in between platforms 8 (3) and 9 (5) and there is no OHLE.

I loved taking those trains to Scarborough for my holidays with the folks. Now I live in Scarborough, and the trains aren't half as good as they once were. Such a pity.

The 'rabbit' i'd suggest is a Hare, ie March Hare, several class 31's had them but the Hares' were 'running'', this s different, that would be my guess though, ps this must have been 1987/88 at the very latest, no way it is 1990, 45144 and 118 were well gone by then, and there is no wires up in the station, also center roads still in, I'd guess at 1987.
@kevinfowkes23274 ай бұрын
Sprinters took over all Liverpool-Scarborough services from May 1987 so if it is 1987 it must be at the start of the year. Another clue is that all the coaches are blue & grey, by 1987 the Trans Pennine livery was starting to appear, so it could easily be earlier. I can't remember exactly when the wires reached York. I do remember Doncaster was wired up in October 1986 but they then concentrated on wiring the Leeds line before heading up to York.
@alhumphrey818 жыл бұрын
im guessing thats a transpennine service. what year did they paint the coaches in transpennine colours?
@PHKCA8 жыл бұрын
Yes your correct, the coaching stock was painted from, if memory serves me correct , from '86.

seems an odd place to have a loco swap.
@PHKCA8 жыл бұрын
That's how the diagrams went, a fully fuelled loco would come on at York, said loco would work to Scarborough and back to either Liverpool or North Wales, and return to York later in the evening, the loco that came off the train at York, would go for servicing and be fully fuelled as well, it would then go back on a service later, and do the same as the earlier loco that replaced it, hope that helps.
