Rare footage of a Class 58 012 banking 37 710 & 60 030 on empty steel through Bromsgrove up the Lickey Incline. Locomotive 60 030 having failed, class 37 being put on the front. 03/04/1992.

Probably my favourite bankers the 58s. They were amazing climbers too. Great stuff Mr C

Indeed Rich. They were also my fave loco of the modern era. Something a bit different. Have you watched the BS route learners clip ? A certain well known local videoer makes a cameo appearance filming the 4 20s back in the days when we all had plenty of hair

Cheers mate. Having filmed it arriving at Garringtons I would ideally have liked to get them at Vigo powering up the incline but was on my bike that day and didnt want to risk not getting there in time. The station was second best option.

Very nostalgic. loved to see 56's & 58's on MGR service and the Double headed 37's on Steel up and down the camphill line, Brum.

Nice tractor thrash pulling the class 60 and class 58 as I think the tractor was quite capable of pulling the whole train load by itself!!! 😎

Actually the person who said that the class 37 couldn’t or probably was to weak to pull the 60 and unloaded metals up the incline is probably wrong because that’s a 37/7 and along with the 37/8 and 37/9s they were the most powerful in-fact they were the same power as the 56s and 58s they were the modified versions they had tractive effort of 62.000 lb and weighed 120 tons so yeah that 37/7 could of defo hauled that train by itself

58012 didn't look too healthy either.
@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf2 жыл бұрын
Perfectly healthy for a Ruston. You'd be surprised how bad they were at times, and we still got there....on time,if not early!!

Did an unloaded train really need 3 units ?
@ermorailways38662 жыл бұрын
Yes seems excessive but the 60 was DIT and even though it was an m/t steel it would have been twice the usual length.

@@ermorailways3866 DIT = ??? , not working i assume. Cool vid anyway.

Absolutely. We mustn't forget that Lickey is 1.37, converted, that is a 2.7% grade!! No way a single class 37 would have made the climb with those wagons and a dead 128 tonne loco with just 1750 HP.
