Great coverage Les, I do like a class 69/56. It was good to meet you yesterday and spend some time with you (weds) in your neck of the woods . Keep up the good work.. kevin

A good topic very well-covered, Les, thank you. Particularly interesting to see some detail of the wagons in the train too as well as a glimpse of the operating crew at work.

Some great shots there Les. In all honesty I think you need a team of lumberjacks in the station area as the last spraying session seems to have had very limited success.

Thanks! I think they underestimate the robustness of buddleia!
@johnmay2786 Жыл бұрын
Just what I was thinking, plus the litter between the tracks not cleared up apparently. Lumberjacks certainly needed as there are small trees growing, obscuring fairly important signage.

I have just started watching now but I bet it is a good video as usual I just wanted to say that 69005 has been removed from the train because it’s brake blocks are low and is going to be replaced tomorrow with 69004 that is what the driver replied to me on Facebook!

Plenty of weedkilling to do at Carlisle station...!
@LeslieGilpinRailways Жыл бұрын
Lots has been done but has to be limited within station areas apparently

It looks as if some productive time could be spent watering the weeds in Carlisle station, where there appears to be a really good crop!!
@LeslieGilpinRailways Жыл бұрын
After all the rain Network Rail have been developing quite a range of plants they seem not to discourage. Helped of course by the gulls, certainly in the station area, bringing more seed and fertiliser
@davidmatheson8172 Жыл бұрын
Did they spray inside station? As I notice greenery sprouting forth again
@LeslieGilpinRailways Жыл бұрын
They don't apparently spray in platform areas but you can tell it was done on their visit the other week.

Interesting video Leslie. Does that train cover the whole of the network or is it just a northern thing?
@LeslieGilpinRailways Жыл бұрын
I'm told that there's at least another weedkilling set operated by GB Railfreight. This set seems to have worked in the North of England and Scotland.

The effects of the previous visit took a week or two to take effect. It'll be mid August before we see signs of its effectiveness. Of course everything has already seeded and the grass has died off from natural causes.

It seems excessive power for a weedkilling train, surely a single Class 20 could done the job? Or a pair of 20s
@LeslieGilpinRailways Жыл бұрын
None of the major companies would use such a loco. Remember only one of the locos is in use depending on direction

What a difference between the class 69's and the Class 70's. the 69's look like an updated Class 50 and the 70's look like something you'd see on the Island of Sodor, Looking down on Thomas and the otheer steamers with a smug look on it's face. I still mthink the Class 70's are the ugliest locos on BR.
@LeslieGilpinRailways Жыл бұрын
The 70s are not the prettiest of locos. The 69s are really 56s with a class 66 powerplant.
@mikeuk4130 Жыл бұрын
70s work hard and seem quite low-revving, so probably also the claggiest loco. They also make an unearthly howling noise at speed.
