Amalgam, not only does it look good, it is soo healthy!

No, amalgams aren't healthy. Mercury poisoning from my amalgams cost me 20 years of my life.

How do you do it if the tooth is on the upper arch? Wouldn't the material fall down as you try to apply it?
@AustinTexasPowers Жыл бұрын
Well you can recline the pt so they’re lying down/completely supine with chin up so gravity isn’t actively working against you

Hey doc why didn’t you carve any anatomy into the tooth ?
@kuohero1817Ай бұрын
as i heard from my professor in college (im still third year student though) restoring anatomy for amalgam is not that important because its already an amalgam not esthetic restoration only functional restoration if it was composite anatomy will be necessary because its esthetic and functional restoration but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t restore the anatomy !
@aaryavaze149622 күн бұрын
Because any risk of deep groove carving will lead to food lodgement

Thank you Dr.Ryan, your channel is very helpful. But I'm still having hard time preparing class 2 cavities, the box in DO and MO
@mentaldental3 жыл бұрын
Class II preparations are notoriously challenging! Both the preparation and restoration can be difficult, but I promise that it gets easier with practice and experience. Also I have found over the years that some patients have tighter contacts or wider contact areas that can be especially challenging to prepare and restore so it varies from patient to patient.

Do I need to put a lining at the base before putting Amalgam?
@mentaldental4 жыл бұрын
If the preparation comes within 0.5mm of pulp tissue a cavity liner is recommended for thermal and electrical insulation. If 0.5-2mm away from pulp, a base is sufficient. If 2 or more mm away, then a desensitizer like GLUMA will suffice.
@tipwo69213 жыл бұрын

Beautiful! I would like to ask if it is correct to start reconstruction with the matrix retainer and then put a base and next retention grooves and finally amalgam? To avoid excessive bleeding on base material when putting matrix retainer on?

Approximately after how many minutes i can do the post carving ?
@mentaldental4 жыл бұрын
The exact amount of time depends on the type of amalgam and how it was mixed, but I would say on average about 15 minutes.

@billn.13183 жыл бұрын
The only reason why dentists don't use these anymore is because most US dentists are all about efficiency. They would rather use composite fillings than amalgam as it's faster to implement vs amalgam. Though, amalgam fillings are lot more durable. Still, amalgam placement are still taught in dental school.
