Im glad you noticed the twist. I had been staring at that a while.

Stephen--very thorough review, thanks. It was clear from my perspective via the video that that end of the car was warpped. Maybe a bad casting that got missed by QC? At a distance it might be easy to overlook but it seems that it is visible as soon as you get within a few feet of the car in any side view. I look forward to hearing how Class One makes it right.

I think you are trying to talk yourself into keeping an expensive car that shouldn’t have as many issues as your video clearly shows. I have been leery of pre-ordering from both Class One and Aurora Miniatures. I just don’t trust new model companies until they can prove their worthiness. It will be interesting to see how they respond to you and what the resolution is. I do want one of these cars and waited to see how they were and I am so glad I waited. Thank you for an honest review video

I just heard profit plummet for a new company! these will be on a super sale in the near future, unfortunately as there is room for all these new products. good job on a honest review.

I had a Walthers 89’ piggyback flat that for some reason warped like crazy, metal plate and all. Never had it happen to all the other flats. Strange… I’ll have to check my C&EI car for this issue. Still love the car!

Well folks, I did see the CWM video on the "bent" car. They did contact me- there is another possible issue with the brake lines not going fully under the underframe cutouts. I did have a bit of this on the B end. I removed the plastic body from the metal underframe, did some bending and "de-twisting", reassmebled being sure to keep the brake lines inside where they belong. Now the car seems much better. I can see the bend and twist are no longer there- or not nearly as bad if they are. Still rolls smooth. I know- for the cost of the car we shouldn't have to do this. I agree, but sending it back would be kinda a PITA, and I did fix it.

nice review , I really like that you go in depth with real prototype comparison instead of saying how many grabs there are and such :) Maybe you could find a picture of your 7265 model to compare it with. I saw 7268 on FallenFlag website and it is just flat without any nubs sticking out on the deck. Maybe not all cars had the same configuration depending on their purpose/industry being used on? Thanks for posting this video, it is really interesting :)

It's definitely got a twist on that one end. As others have suggested, I'd use a heat gun to soften it and cool it down as soon as you get it straight.

Rob, for future reference, to establish if there is a twist, use a shorter version of what we cabinet makers call "winding sticks" to establish if a surface is flat. Take two equal sized in length, width and height sticks and lay them on the ends of the surface perpendicular to that surface and sight down the surface. You will be able to tell immediately if there is a twist and how bad it is. As to fixing the problem with your car, with a wood top, pull out a sharp handplane. With the car, heat it and apply weight on a dead flat surface???

I had to check my car after watching your review. It was in the que for weathering and I hadn't done more then a cursory inspection. Sure enough the B end was higher then the A end and slightly twisted. It wasn't nearly as bad as your car. I gently bent it into place. I'll check it in a few days to see if it goes back to the way it was. I wouldn't try that on a car that was as out of spec as yours. I'm not going to trash CMW, they obviously can't inspect every car before they ship it. However it does appear there is an issue with these cars.

Definitely warped/twisted way more than it should be. Sad for something so expensive. I feel for the manufacturers but at the end of the day it's their product they're choosing to ship like that. It's super frustrating as a retailer being caught in the middle.

That still is a nice car Rob, I agree with you though, for the money we spend now on engines and freight cars they should be ready out of the box!! Now you need to build a car shop and put your HO crews to work!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's funny the Bachmann N Scale car I have like this is similar. The frame is twisted on mine tho. On the end it says "no jacking pads"? Is that the lugs?

It's definitely twisted, but, as you've said, is it all that noticeable when you're standing four or five feet away operating it. And, once you've added a load are you going to see it at all? It does roll nicely

have you ran the car on the layout for a bit? i just wondering how it tracks and holds the rails in a full consist. I did see the end , just wondering if a video shall follow. they do seem to be a better detailed model of such car, but with all the issues, I am very interested in your opinion as to buy a couple or not.

@robbennett1965

Apologies for late reply-playing catch up! I am modeling the "mid-1950s" -ish era. To be honest, whatever I want, as I do have some Reading RR MP15s, GP39-2s, and ALCo C630s, as well as some modern power since Steve works for the NS now. I tend to say 1957-1958, but I bend that a lot- I have steam power that would never rub couplers with a GP9, and a few cars that don't "belong" in this time period. But hey, it is a hobby, so I tend to run what I like! In fact, I also have NKP GP30s and a GP35, and am waiting for a BLI Stealth NYC GP35.😀

This car warp is not alone. In addition to this car warped at both ends the cars that Bachmann makes and the Eastern Scale Models kit have the same exact problem with the ends warping up. Hard to say what exactly causes this but it could be the cooling process out of the molds. Looking at the models with the trucks on the curves at the depression are off, not cast down flat enough. You car appears to have a cast metal frame. The other two I mentioned don’t. Your car is also twisted across the ends. Your trying to talk yourself into it and not blame the manufacturer. It’s wrong. Send it back.

I have one car the couplers were high and had a lot of vertical play the simple fix was to change coupler with an overshank type and add a .01 shim to eliminate the play. On the other side give these guys a break its a tough job to hot metal cast the internal structure and then have the plastic skin fit snug. I was a design engineer for same type of construction. Sometimes the first run is not very good looking Peter

You have better get the box ready because that car would be going back. That thing is twisted all over the place. Then if you run it later on you will be cussing . This would be due to the coupler on the real bad end causing derailments.

It's quite badly warped really. For the amount of money you've probably laid out for it, I'd consider getting a refund or replacement. Failing that you're going to have to try to remove the warp with hot water, a heat gun or something similar. Bummer. Hope it works out OK!

The quick and easy fix is to send it back for CMW to fix. If you're going to do small batch manufacturing then you need to understand customers want what they paid for not an overpriced kindergarten project.
