FYI it was Bumblefoot playing the solo on the song Shacklers Revenge. Chinese democracy was the first single. Not complaining just letting you know 🤘

Dr Fukk i saw the guns n roses metallica stadium tour in 92 93?? i just went to see metallica but g n r really rocked !!!!!! i do remember waiting forthem but hey we were all whipped into a major frenzy !!!!

I remember my experience with this albums gestation period and me and my friend so curious to hear how guns could work with no other original members - the day 'Better' leaked he showed me and we both liked it - I went to best buy on release day (it was actually kind of hard to find it in the store, maybe there is some truth to what Axl said about the label botching the release) - I remember my friend did not pick up a copy, he only liked Better- I popped the disc in my car and at the first riff of Chinese I was happy, of course it sounded different, but familiar, I skipped over the more electronic sounding tunes, but in time, they have grown on me too - it was weird, everyone seemed to not bother with this record, I knew it wasn't going to be a gnr classic, but I was so stoked just to get new music - all in all, my experience with Chinese Democracy was a rollercoaster of naysaying and wondering, to listening and liking, to hearing hatred and dismissal- no other album like it man - good shit!

I used to hate Chinese Democracy with the exception of the title track. But after a few more listens and growing older and my mind opening up more the album started to grow on me. Its a decent album don't love it but i like it more then i used to

I remember sitting in Best Buy's parking lot with a handful of other people to buy that vinyl when it came out, though I'd already been listening to all but a few (scraped, this I love and sorry iirc) of the songs for years. When I saw them in 2006 they played a handful of songs from it before they'd released them (iirc Better, Chinese Democracy, Madagascar and T.W.A.T., )and a lot of people were already singing along with them lol. It was cool to see Robin Finck in both GnR and NIN and Axl sounded amazing that night, no Mickey Mouse and and they took the stage right on time. I still listen to some of the old versions and demos because I got so used to them that way and they were overcrowded on the album proper. Great review. Wish they'd have used the original artwork for it, it was great.

I love this album too, Ralph. It's very underated in my opinion. Kinda dissapointed you didn't went more deeper with TWAT... just because it's my favorite lol. And the solo it's massive.

Street of Dreams is a great track. There's a lot of stuff going on in that tune that reminds me of Queen. Particularly the opening verse, total homage to Freddie.

ChiDem has really grown on me on recent listens. Even on my least favorite songs, there are often segments of the songs that I really love. Similar to Illusions, actually.

A lot of people heard it for the first time on streaming and it sounded like listening to it through a tin can, so the production was lost on a lot of people, it should be in the realm of "headphone classic"... which Use Your Illusion definitely is not. Bumblefoot was basically tying up loose ends and was able to handle Bucket's parts live. Someone should write a book about the making of the album- a lot of music moguls like David Geffen, Irving Azoff, Jimmy Iovine involved as well as Roy Thomas Baker driving the budget through the roof.

Wasn't feeling it after the first listen but by the third time it was all making sense. I think it's a great album. It's an 'adult' GnR album. Just listened to it about a month ago and enjoyed it more than ever.

I totally agree about short albums. Nothing worse than when it could have been a perfect album but they kept a couple stinkers in there. 30-35 minutes is perfect.

I love Street of Dreams too! I think Chinese Democracy is underrated. I think it would’ve been more popular if it was an Axl solo album instead of a GnR album (even though Axl owns the name.) Better, If the World, There Was a Time, I.R.S. (for that one note Axl hits), Sorry, and Madagascar are all really good.

I don't think TWAT as a whole is a great song but the solo Buckethead did on that song is phenomenal, and Streets of Dreams is probably my favorite song on the record

I love this album and Idgaf who doesn’t like it. Saw them on tour in like 2012 or 2013 in New Jersey. There was a Time is such a great song. I think I picked up the vinyl at Best Buy a few years after it came out for like $5 brand new.
