Slight correction: I have actually driven a few Alfa’s that I’d completely forgotten about, but only new ones. So this is the first ‘proper’ Alfa I’ve driven! Enjoy!

If you feel it’s slow, you not rev it enough. 😉 I have a 1969 Gt 1300 Junior (stepnose) with a upgraded 1750 series 2 engine. Those engine loves to rev. Take it into a bend, 3 gear on mine, 3-4000 rev, and floor it. Then you can feel the power. And the noise from the inlet-trumpets and exhaust. That would give you a bigger smile than you already have. 😁 And its so small, so the speed feels alot higher than it is. I love mine. Its a keeper.

The second gear synchros will wear if the driver keeps his hand on the shift lever while driving. My GTV never had the issue in 30 years of ownership. My 75/Milano wasn’t as good but that was due to the long shift linkage wearing over time. On two lane roads a well maintained 1750 will cruise at 90 mph all day long. The ATE dual booster brakes were as good or better than anything on the road in period. I felt the controls were light and pleasant. Loved driving the thing. Mine was a US Spica car in ochre.

Just like the 1750 GTV I owned back in the 80s - same year, G reg. I loved it, and would happily have the Mk1 again. A special experience owning and driving that Alfa.

Think you need to learn how to double declutch! Completely unnecessary in a modern BMW but essential in an old Alfa!
@itsjoel7 ай бұрын

I actually forced myself to learn to do that when I bought one of these Alfa's. The 2nd gear synchro is a common failure and mine was busted. The only way was to double declutch

@@bimbettocavallohow exactly do you do it?
@bimbettocavallo4 ай бұрын
@@GunCollector007 in slow motion (in the examples, you want to go from 3rd to 2nd): 1. Press the clutch 2. Move the gear lever from 3rd to neutral 3. Release the clutch 3a. Blip the throttle 4. Press the clutch 5. Insert 2nd 6. Release the clutch The key is doing 2-3-4 in very quick succession, almost as one movement. You should not really spend much time in neutral. The throttle blip is useful as you go down with the gear but not required as you go up. There are many videos on KZbin. For example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ranbe5h-fbyLkKc

The dashboard appears to have been undersealed! The interiors were very well put together so that one needs fettling. But a 1750 GTV should go very well.....if it is correctly set up and has all of the 120 bhp. Next, try a GTV6 (the proper one, not the 90's thing) and then an Alfasud Ti.

Great to see you enjoying that GTV, with such a big smile, it says it all. I had a 1600 GT Junior until a few years back, what a nice car it was, when Clarkson said that thing about petrolheads and Alfa, he definitely didn’t mean any Alfa from the later period, he was talking pre 90’s, or at least pre 00’s. I had (and still have) a BMW 2002 and a 240Z, alongside a mini 1275GT, also great cars from that late 60’s to mid-70’s era. That period and up to the mid 80’s has so much great machinery. Let me know if you want a go.

Nice car and a decent review. My gearbox was shot too, so shifting esp. when cold was horrendous. All sorted now but I will still ddclutch out of habit... The E Type was bonkers cheap when launched- about half the Aston/ Ferrari market that it was gunning for. So any comparison to it's price inevitably takes the focus away from the car in question and onto Jaguar's pricing policy. The 105 was clearly an expensive option and the Lotus Cortina great value. p.s. 50mph max?! They love to rev. and we've seen well over 90 on the speedo. Sure it's noisy and you need to focus but they are meant to be driven.

@1240enzo7 ай бұрын
Ahm, given that any model 105 Gt, Gt Junior or GTV will set you back as a minimum $50k and up to at least $130K Aud these days, I would have to contend that the opportunity for most is well and truely past. Back when I bought my ‘69 S1 1750 in 1997, I paid $7.5K and sold it some 12 years later for $6.5K. These days even a basket case car will cost you at least twice to three times that. The same is true for the Giulia sedan, and even top condition Berlinas. Don’t even think about spiders, especially a boat tail or early Kamn tail spider. The 105 Alfa of any variant is a lovely car to drive but inexpensive to purchase they are not.
@nigelalderman91787 күн бұрын
Ah well, not sympathetic and didn't drive it at all. I am thinking of getting one but they're expensive now. Last drove a 2000GTV in about 1977. A beautiful if rather leaky with an over stressed clutch plate.

Please please please learn how to double-clutch. I am traumatized by your shifts into second gear. These are actually comfortable to drive, and once acclimated, easy to drive at the limit over long distances, such as the length Germany, from the border of Austria to the ferry in Puttgarten, to catch the boat to Denmark.
