@@Zachsmoparandmashedpotatos because it was pure gasoline no junk mixed into it. i run non ethanol gas in my 2008 Cadillac STS and i can drive way further although the engine is desing to handle ethanol. i also own a Volvo XC70 4x4 lifted wagon and it even says in the owenrs manual for best efficiency and power run non ethnol 98 octane gasoline. so the regular 91 or 95 ocatane gas is junk these days.

The accelator pump lever has 3 slots..try the top slot..see if that helps..also try the a stronger spring step spring for the primaries ..edelbrock sells a spring kit..different colors..the plain color heavy spring opens the spring the fastest..the avs secondary flap shouldn't be causing that stumble..

As a Chrysler mechanic for 45 years I can tell you that stumble in cold weather can be caused by no heat stove on the exhaust manifold and hot air tube going to the air cleaner. The sensor for the vacuum going to the air doors also has to be working.
@Bruce-fr3ot
@Bruce-fr3ot 3 жыл бұрын
I will second that , I bet if you power brake it slightly you will see those hot air vacuum door motors will open a the engine will fall flat on its face. Back in MN we experenced that all winter long. We used to install a delay valve in the vacuum hose and make sure those doors don't open on slight acc, also with a temp gauge inside air cleaner door doesn't open till 110-120 degree's.

A guy I grew up with had a GTX 440 4 speed. It was built for street racing. Steep gears and you could hear and feel it fire across town. It had the first and only three barrel I've seen installed on a car. It had a pink lace job laid down. There was another GTX 440 4 speed outside of town a few years later. I swore it left the ground like a plane taking off.

The problem with old fuel is that the butane in it evaporates. That causes the octane rating to be lower and gives the lower end temperature ignition to be at a higher value. The vapor pressure is also lower which means that the volumetric rate of going to a vapor state from liquid state is lower. This occurs when going from a pressurized state to a vacuum state below the carburator in the intake manifold. Basically, old fuel with low butane levels changes the air fuel ratio and has a lower octane rating which causes pre detonation in the cylinders.

GM used the Quadrajet, and it used to have the same problem. I used to tighten up the Velocity plate spring, over the Secondary's, adjustment and it would cure it.

As Nick has always suggested you can't sign off until it's tried and tested that's why Nick's Garage can never be bested The plum crazy GTX has had some revisions Nick has helped the owner make the right decisions You can't beat that big block rumble unfortunately this one's got a stumble When you've come this far you can't let your determination crumble The only way to decide let's warm it up and go for a ride!

I run a mix of VP-110 and 92 ethenal free, motor is 10.75, it loves good gas. I sent the AFB and distubutor out to be rebuilt and restored, that made a big differance. I run 10degrees startup and 38 total, coming in at 2800-3000rpm.

The Mopar AFB and AVS carburetors have three step metering rods and matching jets for them. They can be fine tuned by using the Edelbrock AFB two step metering rods and jets, primary and secondary jets, by using the non-raised Edelbrock metering rod covers for the two step rods. Then jetting and timing can be adjusted for power. The two step metering rod jets should not be used with three step metering rods. Three step rods are meant for specific jets made for them and the two step rods are meant for specific jets made for them.

My god that's a beautiful car! To me the 70 is the ultimate GTX and Road Runner! One year only look! I like the GTX better than the Road Runner, I know they weigh more but that's OK with me I'll give up a little acceleration for the comfort!
