1971 Fury with the VIN for the win: P for Plymouth Fury, M for Medium Price class, 29 for two door sports hardtop, K for 360 CID V8, 1 for 1971 model year, F for Newark, DE assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Newark, DE plant operated from 1938 (as a parts depot) and then later as a car assembly plant from 1951 until 2008. Possible code L5 Bahama Yellow exterior paint. It looks like it was previously sitting somewhere from around 1986 before being put back on the road, based on the NYS windshield stickers of which the registration expired in 1985 and the inspection in 1986.

Local Wal-Mart had a car sitting in it's parking lot like that as well. One difference was it was drawing flies & had a smell. Yeah....dumped car with a murder victim inside. Took about 8 wks to notice it,too. Says a lot for their so-called 'Security'?
@WarChallengerАй бұрын
There is a due process to go through. First step is to contact the police non-emergency sector and notify them of the car. Nab the VIN for your own records, and then keep an eye on it. It’ll either find its way back to the original owner, or end up with a reclaimed title of some kind. If the latter, you might find it at a police auction. Happens more often than we’d like to admit where perfectly good cars just get dumped because someone just got really, really sick of dealing with it.

There's this really nice silver 9th gen Accord that's been parked in the parking lot of a Black Bear dinner i visit for couple months now. I called police to check on it and they told me it was not reported stolen, has current registration, no one at the business complained about it, and its too nice for someone to have just abandoned it. So they won't do anything about it 🤔😮. But I watched it get dirtier every weekend I visit, and none of the employees know anything about it. And there's a tree that overhangs it so now it's covered in bird crap. I'm surprised no one vandalized it yet. It's a really nice car. Maybe that's what it will take for the police to do something in my town. 😮💨

I would say the repairs to keep it going were too much for the owner. You have to remember some people don’t have pockets lined with cash. They drove until it died & they gave up on it. Could be as simple as a dead battery? I would have it towed home & parked & then contact the police. Who knows? The towing outfit for the owner of the lot might have been called to pull that out of there?

At a certain point, they are considered a classic or antique and exempt from inspection
@googleusergpАй бұрын
Those are old NYS stickers from 1985 (registration) and 1986 for the inspection (not 1988). Whoever owns it now didn't scrape the old ones off. It's likely that they bought it, and it was in storage somewhere for a long time and they got it on the road in 2024 (being that the current registration expires in 2026). It's registered but not inspected. When you get issued plates in NYS at a DMV office, you get a 10 day inspection extension (a paper sticker) that allows you to drive it for 10 days to get the vehicle inspected. The yearly stickers are printed out by the inspection machine and have the VIN#, the certificate number, a QR type scan code, the month and year of expiration and the type of inspection (in this case safety only since it's over 25 years old).
@googleusergpАй бұрын
@@DuntovKlincker Not correct for NYS. This would still get a safety inspection whether it's registered with regular plates (as it is now) or with historic (HX series plates) or vintage historic (with plates issued in the year it was new, in this case, blue with an orange background in NYS). I have the original license plates on my 1980 Trans Am from when we bought it new.

Here in NY, that vehicle would normally be towed away within 3 days! So I have no idea why it would have been left sitting there and not removed! Plus how could it have been last inspected in 1988, yet have a 2026 registration sticker?!?! I'll bet it was someone's "project vehicle", and their tow vehicle/flatbed broke down and they just figured they'd abandon it in the parking lot.

Florida A vehicle left on a public-use airport is considered abandoned if it's been idle for 45 consecutive days. On other roads, the Florida Highway Patrol typically tows a vehicle after 48 hours. However, local governments may have different time limits. So here in Florida..you call the non emergency line at the local PD. Notify them that this vehicle has been abandoned and that you would like to make claim to it. The police will tow the vehicle, hold it for 60 days in an effort to reach out to the last registered owner. If no response then you will be granted ownership of the vehicle. This could take months and cost hundreds if not a couple of thousand dollars. You will pay all fees including...towing, impound, titling, filing, taxes and whatever else they want to charge. So like some else said..somehow advise the city of the abandoned vehicle...follow it on line with the auction house..be it COPART or whoever else and buy it at auction. Probably get it dirt cheap and only pay a buyers premium and tax and titling fees.
