Craig is a legend with patience of a saint. And that DB6 - unbelievable. Brought back memories of trips to London as a kid. The highlight of the journey was passing through Newport Pagnell, where Aston was based at the time, and seeing what beauties were sitting on the premises. Those cars were so beautifully built - a friend had a wealthy uncle who had a DB4 from new, which he drove almost daily as intended and always serviced 'on the nose', so to speak. He had his first engine problem with it at 250k miles. And because he had a complete service history, all the stamps, and had never exceeded a service interval, it was fixed free of charge. Tadek Marek designed a masterpiece with that engine. Keep up the fantastic work Iain, always a pleasure to see what you're up to.

I laughed out loud at the "before" photos of the VW... James deserves a medal for "bestest mate ever" for his work on that! The Aston....wow! Manual Vantage owned from new?! That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I hope the owner still gets out and enjoys it. That Dino is going to be heart wrenchingly gorgeous when it's done.... I hope most of these restorations are for loving owners to enjoy and cherish rather than for cold investment reasons, because the love and care that goes into each one is very special indeed.

Customer sees paint and brightwork first. Upholstery is also very important, but first impressions are made with paintwork which includes the straightness of the body. No paintwork, no matter how good, will hide imperfections in the blocking stage.

One has to be utterly amazed at the standard of Craig's work. I am sure that the beige interior which got you glowing Iain is something we would all like to have gently stroked. His work leaves me in total admiration. I really enjoyed this one as I owned a MK1 E type in the 70s, but exchanged it for an e works Mini Cooper S as I simply did not fit in the Jag at 6ft 2ins!! I did know a guy some decades ago who fitted a Porsche engine in a VW van with superb results. And as for the DB6....speechless. Keep well. Cheers, Bob

When you opened up the door on that Aston to show the red leather I reacted like Homer Simpson does to doughnuts. Was not expecting that colour with the blue exterior. What a piece of art. On another note, back in the 70's there was a guy in my area who had fitted a 2.7 Porsche engine into his Samba, quite the sleeper. Had no problem going up hills.

Anyone complaining about the cost of restoration needs to see just how much work is involved. A true statement about some classic cars looking well but just what kinda condition is the important metal parts for strength under the paint and in a lot of cases the filler. Yous are blessed with true craftsmanship in the workforce and nice to hear of youth coming along too in this line of work. Think I could listen to you explaining how paint drys as you have such passion for the correct details involved in proper restoration. For demographics, I’m a 63-year-old “U.S. American,” to differentiate myself from all the other nationalities which are ALSO ‘American’. . “I rise today,” to say how much I enjoy you’re being an old-world gentleman-I pick up on the cues very well: For example, when you advise us to see your “Merch Shop,” you’re completely self-effacing about it. I wouldn’t reproach you if you did flog your latest Merch, but you take pains to not do that. . That VW Bus as it's known here in Germany is a type 2 - but T1 series. Type 1 was the Beetle and type 3 was the VW 1500, the later VW 411 was the type 4. Confusingly, the aircooled engines are also categorized type 1 - type 4. T1 was the first bus generation - today, the T7 is on sale. The first T1s had mindblowing 25hp.

I watch the engine work and the body work, and although these gentlemen are orders of magnitude beyond my skill set, I can do the rudiments of their work and I can imagine some idealized me doing what they do. I sincerely enjoyed the segment on the very interesting restoration of the E-Type Jag. 🙂 However, I am wondering ??WHY?? during the rebuilding process of this iconic car body are you NOT applying a rust-preventative product on the well-known rust-prone areas...ESPECIALLY beneath the 2 lower body sills? Once these sills are permanently in-place it's too late to give this gloriously beautiful body the protection it clearly deserves. Rust prevention products would most likely be the least costly aspect of this rebuild. Aprox. 100.00 Euros. for a gallon. I can't imagine the owner//your customer paying what must be a very large sum of money to have his rust-bucket completely refabricated & not asking you to include rust-preventative efforts in its' reconstruction. I hope you read & reply to my sincerely respectful question. I'm a relatively new subscriber to your AWESOME KZbin Channel. Best regards from Yucatan Mexico, Ben

Fantastic upload going through the utmost delicate portions of projects, seeing the progress in their stages and the sheer natural strive to absolute perfection by everyone involved in the crew. Especially the VW bus and DB6 both were a pleasing extra. It might be different in the UK but in the Germany the VW bus manufactured up to 1967 were all type 2 of course (Type 1 being the beetle) but coded T1a, T1b and T1c. The successor model was the T2 which is a different and larger design. The next successor was the T3, etc. 'T' standing for the Transporter platform whilst 'Type' standing for differentiation of the beetle and T platform. A tad confusing perhaps. It is such a pleasure to see all the cars in the background as well. Thanks a million again for another mind-boggling upload 💓

It's hard to beleive for me, but I worked for a coach builders ( not coach's the old generic term for specialist vehicle companies) 40 years ago making discrete armoured vehicles, we had those skills, great to see them surviving, well done Iain, cherish these men.

Back in the mid 70's I had a friend who dabbled in buying and selling cars from home and one day asked me if I would go with him to a small engineering firm in the West Midlands as the owner of the company was considering selling his 1969 Aston Martin DB6. In order to tempt him to sell we took just cash with us to buy the car. We both entered his office and after some short polite conversation I placed a large wad of bank notes on his desk (Five thousand pounds) He accepted the cash and I drove this metallic green DBS home. I later collected my wife rom work in the DB6 and when she got into the passenger seat he comments were, "I don't like this much, it's a bit old fashioned". Granted the interior does have that gentleman's club. £5,000 doesn't seem a lot of money today but back then in the West Midlands area you could by a decent detached home for that sort of money.

I think when it comes to this level of classic car all the restoration work actually adds value over and above what it costs, especially when it’s to such a high standard as this. The real collectors know how to look for the signs of shoddy restoration and know when corners have been cut, so it really is a false economy to do anything less.

Officially the T1 is the VW bug, the T2 (type 2) is the mini bus, but Iain is not wrong because VW called it the Transporter, and because this is the first Transporter people started referring to it as the T1, short for Transporter One. This nickname has overtaken the official nomenclature.
