"This is real life not park tools videos" you're giving me flashbacks to setting up a threadless fork for the first, and hopefully last time.

What a wonderful and enjoyable resource you provide, especially on a chilly February morning at my bench in the US midwest, as I decide to install an old set of Mafac racers from my parts bin on a 70s Motobecane Miirage. Thank you so much for this helpful video.

It's a lot easier to put the springs back in place after a complete reassembly of the brake levers onto the backplate. I use a pair of pliers for this.

Regarding the red and black washers. It absolutely does make a difference. The red ones go faster.

You are missing, perhaps the best stopping brake ..the commonly found Universal from Italy..

My 1986 Raleigh Granada Tourer had Weinmann 610 brakes with 27 inch wheels. They were very good and dependable especially when carrying loaded panniers on tour. As far as I know, centre pull brakes are no longer manufactured.

Paul components make them.

DiaCompe still makes them, in the same style as Weinmann, same as they have since the 60s.

Makes sense, now you’ve said it. I’m ok when writing, but when talking I forget names of things!

Excellent content. I have the Mafac Competition but the straddle cables are impossible to get for this model. Are there any alternatives out now? The Racer only has one nipple end. This seems like a better idea. Mafac competition uses thin straddle wires with nipples on both ends. A Dia Compe (or Weinmann) 750 straddle will be completely unsuitable, because a) the length is wrong b) the nipples are the wrong shape c) the cable itself is the wrong diameter

Any clear non-setting wax. It’s clean.

@@Velocipedium I’ll have to give it a go, I’ve got an old Humber that I’m building up and I’ve bought some centre pull callipers to put on it, I’ll Nick some briwax off my dad when I rebuild them prior to fitting. I’m a new subscriber by the way, from Neath in South Wales 🏴 I’m really enjoying your content 👍👍😎😎

Called cantilever brakes as well - very efficient for cyclocross and gravel
@WWB9mm3 жыл бұрын
No, none of the centre pull brakes here are cantilever brakes. Entirely different items.
@Velocipedium3 жыл бұрын
Cantilever brakes are sometimes referred to as centre pull, especially by people who don’t know about these brakes. In UK especially they get called that
@WWB9mm3 жыл бұрын
@@Velocipedium Shame, that. Here in the Colonies, we're quite established on the differences between Cantilever and CentrePull brakes. I have fork-boss mounted Mafac RAID brakes on my new bike, and they are superlative!

Thank's again Rowan. Why wax and not grease for pivot lube?
@Velocipedium11 ай бұрын
Wax doesn’t get dirty like grease, and it doesn’t go gummy. Nothing wrong with grease, I just prefer wax
