Fr. Charles Connor discusses the impact that the example of early Christians and their writings had on famous converts to Catholicism throughout the ages.
(This talk was originally given in 2004 at the CHNetwork's "Deep in History" conference)
About the Deep in History Talks from the CHNetwork:
The early period of the growth of Christianity (ca. A.D. 50-700) is a rich source for learning how the earliest disciples and apostles of Jesus Christ passed on the “faith delivered once and for all to God’s holy ones” (Jud 3). From Ignatius of Antioch in the early second century to Gregory the Great in the early seventh, the story of the Church’s proclamation in winning over pagan culture to Christ is widely diverse in practice and wonderfully unified in doctrine. The faith of these early Saints inspires and challenges us to live more deeply in love with Christ and in continuity with our forbearers in Christ.
We hope these resources take you deep into the history of Christ's Church and thereby deeper into Christ. Please visit:

I see that it has been awhile since you wrote this comment but I can answer the question if you study all the denominations and how they were started you will see just like the Catholic church started correctly but over time started forcing worlds thought into scripture and started to have splits in faith and each denomination holds to some truths that the others do not but not one of them keeps all truth as taught in scripture that is why we have 3000 years of biblical authors so we can read and see how each of those people dealt with these arguments and none of the first Christians would totally agree with any of the denominations today but would point out what truth each teaches and throw the rest away even people like Augustine and Thomas of Aquanious would fully agree with the Roman Vatican we are to bring ALL to scripture and the Holy Spirit to truely divide to truth trough Righteousness hope this helps

@@leojmullins we are all of The Body of Christ through faith He was not talking about man made denominations if you check history at some points there were two popes there are parts of The Body of Christ in all the denominations some of them will go to Heaven and some will not but each denomination teaches some truths and some false I study from teachers from all the denominations if what they are teaching is biblical and not denomination teachings I bring all to scripture

@@seekrighteousness297 There has actually been three Popes at one time. Trying to judge the Catholic Church by it sinners is like evaluating rugby by its worst players. I.e. only done by soccer players. It is a simple fact that the Roman Catholic Church is the ONLY Church whose Bishops can trace their appointment unbroken back to the Apostles. If there was no Catholic Church today there would be no Church Christ could recognise. The Protestant Churches have become man's Church and eventually there will be as many Protestant Churches as there are Protestants in order to suit all individual interpretaions of the scriptures. In summary Christ's Church is Catholic, man's Church is Protestant.

church is a group of people whom Jesus instituted! primarily the 12 apostles... and Jesus commanded them to go to the whole world, and baptising them and TEACHING them all things that Jesus taught them.... Jesus didn't gave us a book... He gave us a church ... and gave Peter the keys (authority). and the CHURCH IS THE PILLAR AND FOUNDATION OF TRUTH..The book (bible came through the AUTHORITY of the church... which is LOSING AND BINDING) ...I really don't understand SOLA scriptura at all, it's not scriptural not even historical... its therefore a man mad tradition started from a confused mind of Martin Luther... Jesus wanted us to be us to be ONE .As His church is one and Him being the head...but it's thousand denominations now and all of them are sola scriptura but most of their doctrine punching each other... that's so terrible.. its all because of MONEY...thousands of pastors now became filthy rich just using only the bible...

The fact that the host stated 2 Timothy 3:16 and compared it to Sola Scriptura is a gross misunderstanding of the Bible as a whole. Because of his inability as most Catholics do, the Bible also states beware against the Traditions of Men in MANY places. How shocking is it that the Catholic Church forgets those verses and does not think about those when quoting this verse as the host did. It ONLY makes sense to use Sola Scriptura because it is God's Word and we are called to use God's entire Word (2 Timothy 3:16), put on the Whole Armor of God (Ephesians 6), and use the Whole Counsel of God to love, honor, & obey God (Acts 20:27) ... AND ... and, grace through faith alone, not of works so no man may boast--God's gift of salvation is free (Ephesians 2:8-10). Works are a result of submission to Jesus (the Bible), not trying to reach Jesus as Catholics teach (Catholic Bible). Why 'o' why do you, Catholics, not listen to God's Word?

Claire Ahmed Why do so many catholics use that excuse as reason...? Help me understand, have you ever read the entire Bible? Do you think God wants you to read the entire Bible? Do you think the Catholic church of today is the Catholic of 1700 years ago?? Yes/No ... please answer this one most of all. Please explain to me how a person is saved? Then, are you saved? Amen.

New Testament- yes. Old testament up to Judges. But according to my humble interpretation of the gospel, when Jesus gave Peter the key to build His Church, the Church started then only, not after1500 years or not during recent years when many common people (not Jesus) started their own churches. Tell me, who preserved the traditions and words of Jesus/God? Don't tell me it's Luther, Calvin, Smith, White, Manalo, etc, etc. These are the people who instead of obeying Jesus who wants ONE BODY/ONE CHURCH, disintegrated it. Please go back to Church history, before the start of protestantism or reformation whatever you want to call it. All those people who gave their lives for Jesus, starting with his disciples, were early Christians. and guess what, those times there was no bible! and these early Church fathers took pains to preserve and protect the words of God which you protestants now claim to know by heart. By the way the Catholics do not need to read the bible from beginning to end to have faith and belief in Jesus. After all, they were the first believers.

***** It always amazes me when asking a Catholic to tell me what the church is, and they never answer or they give RCC doctrines. Pray for the them to come out of her, according to Revelation's harlot. www.GotQuestions.org
