Opps wrong attachment - it should have been the paddle not the dough hook...

Beautiful way to make your pie crust. What a lovely dough ... I am going to try this and will let you know. You ust be a wobderful baker and cook. I hope you are still on here so you can answer and I can watch more of your videos. Blessings and love from Merri in Northfield, Minnesota

You should never run the dough hook over speed-2, that is why the gear stripped out previously. Use your flat paddle and don't overwork your crust, you want to see small pieces of the fat. That is what give's pie crust it's flakiness. Your mixer sounds fine but you might have a faulty speed control switch, it is worth fixing. My lift bowl K5-A Kitchenaid is over 50 years old

Yep, I think it’s been overworked. I thought we had to just mix quickly not in a ball yet and do the rest by hand by just bringing it together ourselves with the aid of a paper…

Yeah, My kitchen aid is well over 20 years old too. My wife was impressed (when we were single) that a guy cooked and used one. All these years later I'm still the family cook.

How do you replace the gears? Did you send it somewhere or do it yourself?

Aren't you only supposed to mix it briefly as to not make it tough and brittle due to OVERmixing? The rest you squish together by hand on your floured surface...?

That’s right. This was overwork imo.

Looks great I got a kitchen aid mixed for my birthday a few years ago. I got the professional series one :) Did you know the screw thing at the back you can adjust the bow up and down a about a centimeter or so. use a butter knife to use on the screw.

Have either of you guys tried a Coconut Oil replacement for Crisco? I going to try tonight - and probably add about 1- 1 1/2 extra Tablespoons of Coconout Oil as it has a thinner consistency.

I cannot see that there is anything wrong with your mixer, it seems to run like a new one. Taken care of those will last fifty years or more and they are serviceable.

@rodneypoe4915

Maybe it has a short in the switch, or it could be the receptacle where you have it plugged in. As far as the bowl sticking, mine is a tilt head model, I have never used one of the bowl lift models but I know they have larger motors. If you do a lot of heavy batters and such you may consider one of two top professional models, the 7 or 8-quart models, they both have a motor rated at 1.3 horsepower and have all stainless steel beaters. They also sound much quieter, they do not have that grainy or gear like sound such as yours or mine has. You could maybe get a very good deal on one with Amazon, like one which has been repacked, those are gone over with a fine tooth comb before being reboxed and are available at a great price.
