There are a LOT of smart people with simple jobs. I presume they took the simple jobs for conscious reasons, like hating what high stress (associated with MANY complex and highly paid jobs) does to them. There was a GREAT "House" episode about a guy who was drinking himself to death, since drinking let him be functional / happy, with a pretty but not very bright at all woman, and with a job as a UPS delivery guy -- BUT he was a leading edge physicist who had come up with theories, written books, papers, etc, which was all about this. I was amazed how many people I met in my younger days at Mensa meetings (in my young days I was good at taking standardized tests), who had very meh jobs and incomes -- and it was ALL about fearing / hating stress and responsibility. In discussions I opined it was interesting how different people were re what they feared. I feared not having enough money to get by (not be fancy, but eat OK, be warm, safe, clothed, have medical care, and access to books, etc. so as not to be endlessly bored). I put up with a LOT of stress, fatigue, and time invested in my job to be DAMN sure I avoided financial problems. The other folks made very sure they avoided a stressed out life. I think a LOT of it is how you are raised, which tends to drive how your personality evolves. I had depression era parent who were both about work ethic and frugality, but not about "fancy" stuff at all.

24:39 I've only watched a minute beyond this, but what if Yellow's goal was NOT to try to hold Asia, but to grab 4 territories while making the enemy think he was going for Asia. The enemy breaks only one territory, leaves Yellow with the 3 others, and Yellow nets himself/herself a +1 bonus for 3 extra territories? Still not the best idea because you put crosshairs on yourself, but it does make more sense than thinking you're going to hold Asia.

In the 3 player deadly trap scenario holding america, I would have held from mongolia + siberia to guaruntee 19 territories. Would you consider this a mistake? I can understand how splitting the troops might set up for a bad endgame, but they both typically have good lines on the yellow player, and you can always reduce the stack size of one of them to maintain a large stack

So what I gathered about Pete in this one around the 38:00 mark is that.... He's not coming out of his cage but he's still feeling just fine Gotta, gotta roll down cuz he wants it all It started out with some risk how did it end up like this? It was only a card, it was only a card Now i'm falling asleep and he's taking a cap While he's smoking a cap they're botting after one attack Now they're raging in bed and his biceps are thick And it's all in in my head but he's winning this Win now He takes off his pants now Let's F****n go And I just look it's killing me He's taken control Jealousy Turning noobs into bots today Swimming through split Italy Choking on your allibis But it's just the game he plays Destiny is calling him Open up his risky eyes He's Mr. Peteside .... ah thank you

The morality/ethics question is complex because humans exist on a bell curve. Normal people in the middle, psychopaths on one end who don't care about anyone but themselves, and empaths on the other end that care about everyone, even complete strangers. To the empath morality comes first in all things, and this spawns rules and laws about ethics. To the psychopath morality does not exist and they only behave properly in society to avoid punishment, so they are always seeking ways to hide their immoral behavior. People in the middle will default to side with the empaths because it creates more prosperity and safety in society, but most can easily be bribed or threatened into subjugation by the psychopaths.

Hey Pete. When I used to play mtga, I almost always played historic brawl. Historic brawl is somewhat similar to commander. It's 100 deck with a commander, highlander, 1v1, 25 starting hp and no commander damage.

But we don't just have ethics / morals, re responsibility to people, IMO. We have them to the entire biosphere, as all living things are their own "agents". Now, obviously a house cat can express emotions, pain, pleasure, etc. far more clearly than, say, a house plant, but I still think that principle is valid, as all living things (and their descendents) are dependent on the biosphere.

The most interesting question I ask people with this understanding of ethics is: What moment in history contained the 'right' set of biodiversity?

Counter-argument. You say taking SA twice is a balancing play by you and Pink being mad is bad play. However, you were 70 troops ahead of pink at the time. So both of you getting +5 forever leaves pink behind. You even admit later "I'm way stronger than you". P.s., I'm a noobly player but you said earlier that playing noobs lowers your game since you don't know what to expect, so here's an alternate to your thoughts during the game.
@behska348710 ай бұрын
That's not a counter argument.. You're making his point for him. Why should the stronger player make do with +3 when the much weaker player demands +7? 5/5 is VERY generous in this case.

@@behska3487 but why should the weaker player continue to stay weaker?
@ifbfmto933810 ай бұрын
@@puchar133you can’t have everything, what you think the stronger player is ‘obligated’ to intentionally let the weaker player catch up? I think that’s pushing it waaaaay too far I think negotiating an ‘even’ bonus position with a weaker player is completely reasonable but, you can’t effectively introduce a line of logic that the stronger player is somehow obligated to directly help weaker players make up for deficits If you go down that line of logic, you’ll eventually (or perhaps quickly) approach a situation where, you think every remaining player should have an equal ‘right’ or equal chance to come in first, and I know that’s not directly what you’re arguing, but your line of logic does lead in that direction….. Just something to consider 🤷🏼♂️
@puchar13310 ай бұрын
@@ifbfmto9338 no, I don't think the stronger player is obligated to do anything. That's not what I said. Everybody wants to win the game. It seems to me that pink thought the best way to win the game was to close the troop count gap, which was pretty significant.

Pete I love your sensibilities in seeking truth. But I have to disagree on the chicken-egg dilemma on morality vs. ethics. 1st of all, although the idea that morality/ethics is meaningless for a single human system, humans have never been a in a single human system. That being said, the argument that ethics is a system of rules set in place by humans must mean that the humans bore them out of personal moralities, disparate as they may be. Plus humans have been around for a very long time - have survived for a very long time - and wouldn't have been able to do so without early forms of simple moralities, like feeding our offspring, or fighting off predators to protect our small groups. Though these "moralities" were almost certainly simply born out of necessity for species continuity, they are nonetheless morals, if not in basal form. After a very long time we started deciding collectively that we shouldn't just do the right thing individually, but that we should be able to EXPECT others to as well through agreed upon systems, and thus ethics were born.
