FYI - in response to your opening comment of 'you can't set anything on fire' (in puzzle games). PS3 had a puzzle game called Trash Panic where you drop items into a bin and to keep on top of the dumping, you need to smash items to smithereens and set fire to it all!

I was kind of bummed out when I couldn't use my Game Gear TV accessory anymore since all cable television has gone digital (so there are no channels available that used to be picked up by it's antenna). Good thing is, I will be heading down to Telus to pick up one of their Game Gear compatible DVRs. So... YEAH.

My favorite puzzle games are Pac-Attack, the Puyo Puyo series, Kirby's Avalanche, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and the Columns series.

There's a Special options menu that has more features unlocked as you play. Every gem you clear gets added to a running total which unlocks the features as it gets bigger. Obviously you need to be using game saves in order to use this. So far I've unlocked different sound effect schemes but there's different gem themes etc to unlock too. For one player it gives you something to work toward and it's a nice feature.

I remember playing the Genesis version of Columns and liked it, but haven't seen the other games. They look pretty nice while still having the same gameplay but different and sometimes wildly strange designs. It's a nice set of games for the Sega Saturn showing mainly extra modes of play and some additional graphical changes.

Man, this is such a love hate kinda game. I think it's really fun and competitive, but if you're used to playing other puzzle games, the whole diagonal thing will realllllly throw you off the first couple of times you play.

Columns 97 is too confusing because of the rotation of the gems. The best columns ever made was Columns 3 revenge of columns on the Genesis.It kicks ass ,well, not your ass cause you don´t like puzzles games...LOL

Even to this day, I think the Saturn isn't as good as it's made out to be, in fact, 32bit consoles pulled off piss poor 3D graphics. But the Saturn had way too many hardware faults with it, more so the dreaded power boards and lenses. I'd put the Saturn just behind the Xbox 360 for hardware faults. Even the legendary Mega Drive was more reliable. I'd say the Dreamcast was the most reliable.
