Classic Game Room reviews GRAN CHASER for Sega Saturn from 1995. This game is known as Cyber Speedway in the West and features space ship race car designs from legendary designer Syd Mead who designed the Tron light cycles and Spinners from Blade Runner (among many, many other things). Graphically Gran Chaser has that sad-1995-polygon look which feels dated but the gameplay is really solid and very fun. This is a future death race style game where you can smash and ram other ships as well as launch missiles at them. Fans of games like Hydro Thunder and Fatal Inertia should get a kick out of Gran Chaser / Cyber Speedway. This is the Japanese release featuring Japanese dialog. I got this game along with a Saturn I rented in... well, I guess 1995. I remember REALLY liking it. The music in the American version, especially was PERFECT for 1995. It really felt like it was channeling the spirit of Fzero in all the right ways. Both games (the only Fzero was the one on the SNES at the time) featured unorthodox music like jazz, metal, and pop instead of the typical "racing" music that most games have. It really helped to create an atmosphere for the games. Every once in a while I contemplate buying a Saturn just to play this game and a few others.

This was one the earliest Saturn games I had, and I loved playing it back then. Since it also had two player battles it got a little more playtime than Daytona did.

I'm sure many Saturn fans know about this title. It was featured on some of the demo discs you got with the later saturns. I thought it was cool, but yeah, the graphics were pretty muddy even back in the day. HAHA the WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!! Goes off each and every time an enemy lobs a missile at you.. After a while, I wish it would just say "Warning Infinity"

Wow, I actually have this game. Its still in my closet. The good thing about Sega Saturn games is that you can simply pop the game into any CD player and you automatically have the game's OST.

I remenber borrowing this game from a friend in 1996 I loved it to death. Finally bought it last year after so many years of not playing it and it did feel quite dated and not as exciting as it used to be. The music still rocks though, from the video it seems like the Japanese version has a fferent soundtrack, cyber speedway has an awesome rock 'n roll soundtrack.

@classof77 lol, I always wondered why it's so hard for someone to learn at least a dozen english words and pronounce them properly... he actually says "let's go away" instead of "we're gonna win", but then again it sounds like he's screaming Day-Bone-A anyway... it's not like the words make sense... "I wanna fry-y-y sky high... it's go-o-o-one to get bah"? Like really, what the hell is he singing in Blue Skies anyway?

Ah my first Saturn game literally- left a bad taste in my mouth. As kid I NEEDED MK Trilogy, and at time it was only on PS1 (Saturn got it over year later I believe...not to mention 100 other great games on PS1 I would have to wait over a year to get). So one day in Trumbull Mall in CT, was it Electronic Botique? Some doofus employee who probably needed to get rid of Saturns, convinced my ignorant mom and stepdad that PS1s were "catching fire" and Saturn was a better built and safer alternative, what a dipshit! So I left with a Saturn mk 1. I love Saturn now as an adult, but was a disgruntled kid for a very long time treated to this soundtrack of "whyyyyy wont ya give me my supper!"
