I really like this one, its a pretty decent solid challenging shooter. One of the few games for the system too that was intentionally made to not run at 60FPS too unlike most. Another great review Mark!

I bought this one solely for the cover art since it reminds me of the album art Alex Grey did for Tool. And i use a game genie to play all the Mega Drive games ive got no need for a second console or to cut tabs or whatever, I do the same for SNES/Super Famicom

All you need to do is get a Game Genie for your Genesis. You plug a Japanese Mega Drive cart into it, then plug it into your Genesis. Just press Start, you don't have to enter in any codes.

Have to agree it's not a patch on some of the choice shoot em ups for the Megadrive but I strangely like this game more than I should. Probably more than it deserves actually. Had to buy it for the killer artwork though the box art is the same as the cart and certainly different.

here is how the region coding shenanigans breaks down: PAL= only able to be played on PAL consoles unless you mod it as far as I know, different refresh rate/signal. Japanese and North American games run the same signal (NTSC) so they are sorta interchangeable, with cartridge shapes being the main form of lockout. you can play Japanese games on american console with a game genie for model 1 & 2, and model 3 doesn't even need that, but personally I just use a mega drive from japan, because some games (specifically super shinobi II) don't seem to work on a genesis even with that work around North american cartridges will fit in the slot of a japanese MD, but there is this little lock that juts into a notch in the MD carts that is needed to power the console on, so since the NA carts don't have that notch it wont turn on, but I think you can easily remove the lock if you open it up...

I have Curse for the Sega Genesis. You can play Japanese games on an American Sega , you just need to file down the sides the the machine to make room for extra room of the Japanese games. Once you can fit the Japanese game into the machine it will still play. *Same with Nintendo*, but you remove two plastic pieces from blocking the game getting in..

I'm pretty sure you can play any version of Genesis/Mega Drive games through a 32X. I also have a JVC X-Eye that can play Japanese games because the cartridge slot is squared off and any cart will fit.

To echo other's sentiments on here, it's not the worst game ever by any means, it's just not that great a shoo-em-up compared to the greats on the Megadrive. I think I did pick up Curse for something like £8 back in the day. I used to buy a lot of second-hand Megadrive games, and also pay a small fee to swap ones I got bored with (or ones which were crappy), using a mail-order firm called Megaware (UK), probably very early 90's. :)
@DUSTINODELLOFFICIAL8 жыл бұрын
Not an awful game in itself but has some of the worst slowdown and frame dropping I have ever seen in a Mega Drive game. If it had run a little smoother it might have been a bit more special.

Works on my Genesis. Because this is an early release, the Game genie will let you play this just fine. Also, you can just unscrew the top off your genesis and put the game in that way.

the american genesis can play most japanese mega drive games. Some games do need the language switch to be set to japan like osomatsu kun so they won't work on an american genesis unless you put a language switch on it.

Curse looks like an okay game. Not bad. But not really a worthy addition to my Genesis & Mega Drive collection. So this is an easy pass for me. As for the subject of names, I thought Mega Drive is cooler sounding than Genesis. If only the former wasn't already claimed. But I don't hate the name the US got either, not by a long shot. It's still catchy and fitting.

I remember seeing the box art for this game, and combined with the haunting name "CURSE" thought it would be some kind of terrifying journey involving cybernetic body horror, a theme that is as attractive to me as it is revolting... and the game is just a below-average shmup. Seriously, that art promises an amazing game, maybe an RPG, maybe an action-platformer, that just drips with Cronenberg-esque horror or the dehumanization of "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream," but it fails to deliver. Such a disappointment.

Mark looks like your Megadrive still has its locking mechanism in it with it removed you can play most us and European megadrive cartridges providing they aren't region coded an example of which is Street Fighter 2 Special Champion edition all Megadrives and Genesis consoles can be modified to play any region but here are the default settings Sega Genesis 60hz and English language Japanese Megadrive 60hz and Japanese language and pal setting for Europe Australia and parts of asia that use pal video standard 50hz and English language settings. the modification itself should be cheap as its only wires and switches and a track on the circuit board if your not competent with a soldering Iron I'd suggest that you get some one who is as you could destroy your console as for your sega Genesis model 1 was it already modified when you got it or did you have some one mod it for you if some one modified it for you you might want to ask him/her to do the region mods on your console.
