I'm surprised that Mark prefers the first one, for me Zwei is a huge improvement both technically and in terms of gameplay depth and variety. This just barely beats out Star Fox 64 as my favourite rail shooter.

One of the finest examples of a saturn game that would've been impossible to do on the playstation.
@Monacomaverick11 жыл бұрын
Man, he really undervalued this one. The music is incredible, the scope is much larger, and the graphics are improved. This is as good as a Saturn game gets in my book.
@Lupucillo11 жыл бұрын
Probably the best game on the Saturn. Fine-tuned every aspect of Panzer Dragoon, made it 10 times better, more dynamic, upbeat, and cranked up the difficulty. It's rare to see a sequel live up to its predecessor, but this one does with flying colours. All that, and cute cuddly Khourieats. :D
@sdmayday9 жыл бұрын
I played Zwei before the first one and clearly the second game was much better. I wired our television to my home stereo just to record the soundtrack to tape. A game with heart and soul whichever direction you look at it! And yes, highly mesmerized past me was like "Take that Playstation! You'll never get something like this!"

Yes, I'm amazed that he said that about the environments and music. The environments in the original are basically flat plains with various ground textures. Nevermind the fact that the framerate in the original is absolutely abysmal by comparison.
@Ekkobelli11 жыл бұрын
That is a very good observation and explanation. You put into words what I couldn't. I love the big atmospheres and stories of current games, but the lightheartedness of old N64- or Saturn-games always stroke me as more charming. Stuff like Propeller Arena for example, Destruction Derby: Put in, play, feel satisfied, switch off. Doesn't happen to me like that with current games, though I still love them. I guess the dreamcast was the last real "arcade"-machine.
@RichardCraig11 жыл бұрын
Agreed, though I can see where Mark's coming from too... I think he nailed it when he said it's very subjective. It's amazing that all of the music in this one came from the sound chip and not pre-recorded audio tracks.

I still have my Saturn and it came with this game! It's such a lovely experience. The Theme of the game, the storyline, the soundtrack, the beauty of the scenarios, the challenging enemies... sheesh. Panzer Dragoon (not just Zwei, but all of them) are the most perfect games I've ever played in so many years! Anyone who has all the PD games or at least one of them, consider them as relics and not just as simple classic games...

it wasnt from sega but dream amdromeda who is still alive, a multiplayer online panzer dragoon would work amazing, bringing everyone together from around the world working together and enjoying the adventure, dreamcast 2!! hopefully!! but if not on a console/ pc
@loveforgothic10 жыл бұрын
Partly wrong. It was from Sega. At that time, Sega had different internal programming teams wich were nearly constantly formed by the same people. One of them was AM2 Yu Suzuki's team (After Burner, Hang On, Shenmue, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Racing), another one was AM3 Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Sega Rally 1 & 2, Sega Touring Car) and another one was Team Andromeda withe their Panzer Dragoon saga (the whole saga, not only the game P.D. Saga), a team that in the Dreamcast era was cancelled but most of the members went to Smilebit (a new internal team inside Sega)

The music for the first game was designed to correspond with the action on the screen. If a music track took three minutes, for example, the level would be the exact same length because there was only one route to the end. For Panzer Dragoon Zwei, the branching paths prevented the music from corresponding to the actions on the screen because the different paths would be of different lengths, so they had to make the musical motifs loop. That's why the musical styles for the games are different.

i dunno why, but i like the first one a lil' bit more aswell. it's like mark said, 'PD2 is clearly the better game' but for some reason the original PD is 'better'... at least for me... maybe because the fantastic venice stage or the catchy soundtrack... i have no idea. both are awesome games!

Mark was way off on this one. It's better than the first game in every aspect. The music may not sound like an album, yet it's still amazing, and it creates mood in a way that wasn't done with the first game. The graphics are better, and environments are more detailed. The game play is also smoother. This game is an excellent sequel.

It's actually an "Auto-lock" feature.. Think of it like Afterburner... In that you can either hold the button down for a quick shot.. Or just move the cursor over several enemies to do a big homing-shot... Kind of like Asura's Wrath's shooting sections...

Personally I always prefered Zwei over the original. It's much prettier, runs at a better frame rate (30fps as opposed to 20fps), does a lot more with the Saturn hardware, and it's a much more varied game too. Plus it plays better, and it's more difficult. I love it, but I have to say, Orta is even better again...

Sega needs to make a new Panzer Dragoon game man. I loved part 1 & 2. These are some of the most challenging and fun games ever created. The art work in this game makes it stand the test of time for sure. If a part 4 ever came out even if it was for the PS4 or 720 I would run out and buy a Sony or Microsoft system. It would be better as a Multiplat that hit all three Next Gen systems but if it didn't come out for Wii U I would by one of the other systems if it had Panzer Dragoon 4.

@KRAFTWERK2K611 жыл бұрын
the music doesn't sound that good because it is no redbook audio track but comes from the sound memory of the saturn. Simply because the game is constantly loading new segments of the game and the levels while the game is still running. That was totally new and revolutionary back then. No other console could do that. So the bandwich limitation of the CD drive did not allow both, loading and playng CD audio at the same time.

It is, but I don't really feel the soundtrack itself fits the world of Panzer Dragoon all too well. And note I said *definitely*, not *so much* or something like that. I don't not like the PD1 soundtrack, but IMO, I can decisively say that Zwei's OST is better, even if by a small margin.
