Classic Game Room reviews GRAN TURISMO 2 for Playstation

Greetings from January 4th, 2000!!!! Classic Game Room season 1 - 1/4/2000
What do we have now? Gran Turismo HD, Gran Turismo 5, Gran Turismo Concept... I'm not even sure. But back in 1999 we had Gran Turismo 2 and it was awesome.
GT2 had hundreds of great cars on the playstation 1 (the PSX) and dozens of tracks that are still better than all the tracks currently on Forza 2.
Mark and Dave give GT2 a big thumbs up, and please bring back the Vector and tracks like Grindewalk and Red Rock (or whatever it was called)
Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD.

One of the best racing games I've ever played, its physics was impressive for that era. So many memories, I remember back in the 00's me and my closest buddies had our own memory cards, we used to play simulation mode to get the best vehicles we could, then once or twice a week we reunited to play arcade (2 player split screen) to see who was the best. We loaded our set of cars and go out there. Sometimes we even had fights, nobody likes to lose but at the end we always came up against.

I remember playing around on my razor scooter with other kids on the block screeching "y2k is a-ok". this must've been within a couple months of that memory. so weird to remember that and see this, knowing it was made within months of the memory

I just bought GT2 an it's fun. I wish I didn't have to work tommorow so I could stay up an play it some more. Ps1 an ps2 games are better than today's games in my opinion.

GT2 is something else, isn't it? Something about the realistic-but-not-too-much-so feel and a quick pacing, I think. And of course, that little thing about not having to upgrade a "brand new" game. Work? Comes to us all. :P

Exactly. It has just the perfect mix of retro and realistic graphics. I still think that the car models look amazing even today. Also the customization, and the sheer number of cars! That was damn straight from another world at the time!

Wow watching this video 15 years later in 2015. Man how time freaking flies. I remember watching this video when KZbin was new back in 2008 when this video was published on KZbin. I was like man these dudes were doing the internet video thing before it was cool. Mark you rock man and so does Dave. Man I miss that guy in your videos. This game was my absolute favorite racing game. I would try to make it as hard as possible and win the races with the slowest car in the field. I remember running the table and beating like half the game with a honda civic lol.

+Daniel Lindberg It's of the old CGR, back in its first version in 1999-2000. Then CGR was dead until Mark revived it in 2008, as CGR HD.

The original/first GT was immense but this was an absolute beast. Completely paved the way in terms of actual driving simulation. The proceeding generations of driving sims owe Gran Turismo a wealth of credit. This video is amusing by the way - 15 years old and BEFORE KZbin, lol. Mark saying "I feel old now...", at 4:56, lol. Don't worry dude, you've aged like fine wine, superbly. I'm intrigued though - where did these videos go/where were they uploaded back in 2000?

One of the best Gran Turismo's ever. Stunning to see so many cars and tracks on PS1. And as others have already commented, the sound in this game is better than even some Gran Turismo games on PS3 many years later. I'd love it if Gran Turismo 7 was just a graphical update of this game on PS4.

what i love the most on the 2 first GT, its how they displayed the car dealers and all that, the black/yellow thing makes you feel like youre on a real driving school.and the musics were awesome, specially GT1

I got the last preordered copy from what is now gamestop when it came out. Grindlewald was the great track I used a heavily modified mitsu evo 5 to drift all day long with. This game was amazing for its time. I actually just picked up gt5 for ps3 "finally" a week or so ago. Well I'm 37 now. Games aren't huge priority for me anymore. Haha game still brings back big memories for me. Recording your replays after a night of heavy drinking was always fun to watch later. :)

This and 'Elite' on the Commodore 64 are my favourite retro games ever. I don't think completing it was as easy as you say though. On some tracks, an inch off of perfection means you're over a second late at the finish.

TV tuner cards were available all the way back in the early/mid 90s, and they generally came bundled with software called a PVR that could record an analog input signal - they were precursors to DVRs. There were also plenty of ways to watch video online.

One of the greatest game in history. Great physics, tracks, massive amount of cars, awesome replays, the only thing that got old is the graphics. IMO the best part about this game was that it had cheap and old cars, not only the supercars.

Red Rock in the TVR Speed 12 was awesome. Amazing menus, tracks, cars. Huge upgrade from GT1. Try the bleem! version on the Dreamcast for cleaner graphics. Best racing game ever, until GT 3 A-Spec. Simply incredible.

i remember looking at the reflection lighting techniques on the graphics and bending my freinds ears about how amazing it was that someone had actually drawn this and it wasn't just film and asking how can it get better than this? they really squeezed the ps1 capabilities at the end of its life> top banana indeed. beautiful game

I found GT2 in my PS1 collection a couple weeks ago, having picked it up at a yard sale and never played it. I mean, I love the biggest newest video games out there, but I was blown away by GT2! For pure racing sim fun nothing beats GT. Even tho the graphics are bad by todays standards, believe it or not it still holds up! EASILY the best driving game for the PS1 and STILL one of the best GT games ever. Even GT3 for the PS2 had FAR less cars to choose from!

The thing is that the car itself was not in the game, that was a regular S4 that you could by dirt tires too. But you also had this possibilty on many cars to buy the race outfit, that made your car look like the race car (cool or what?) but you still had the gravel tires and then you could use it on rally! I just hope I remember right:)

@shadowhexogram Thats part of the reason why it was originally cancelled later on. Back then, a large majority of people only had 56k modems and dial-up, which meant, for the videos to actually play, they had to be compressed to tiny viewing screens which often went out of sync. They were considered too "ahead of their time"and were cancelled.
