I booted up Gran Turismo 1 to quickly check and it did have license demos too, but it's in a weird spot, you need to go out of simulation mode to the replay theater and it'll automatically have replays of all the licenses from the developers. They were amazing back when there was only dial-up internet. After the first game they realized it was a better idea to put demo replays in the license menu. I like how you show all the details in your videos that others skip and I like how you talk about the history of the cars. I don't mind your videos being long, I really like you telling your story and revisiting the career mode in GT2. I'm surprised the challenge got harder and harder at many points but you pulled through. Great work! I'm really looking forward to GT3.

25:46 Ironically, your Spoon S2000 probably was capable of winning this race. Despite the restriction being 394bhp, the AI opponents themselves are actually only around 290bhp in that race. While that's still more than the Spoon S2000 has, it should still be possible to beat them with good driving (the AI tends to take the final corner of Tahiti Road very wide, making for a very good opportunity to overtake them).

The Spoon is so well balanced and light. It really is a great tool. And Tahiti is one of the races where the AI is much slower than you. It's one of the few tracks on which the dirt doesn't slow you down, so to you it's much wider than for the AI. In the two uphill right left combinations you can win even more time, when you enter blindly on the dirt and hit the perfect moment for swinging the car. I instantly hated the track and then loved it, because getting these two corners right (and the last one as you said) lets you beat much faster opponents.

It's so great to see those license test again, because they teach you so much, which I wish the game would point out more prominently. The last one in B for instance, you learn how throwing FR cars into the first corner of an s-turn helps them stabilize, as they lean into the suspension. Find the right moment to swing and it perfectly leans in again. Thus, eliminating the d-pad-effect. Great fun to see that again.

A fun story losely attached? When I was in highschool, Ifell in love with that game, playing it at a friends house, but never owned a PS1. So, my best friend and I borrowed one over a weekend and also had to rent the game via videothek. Since we only had that one weekend, we played day and night, including endurances, and on Monday the school councelor took as both aside and gave us a long "I know teenage life can be hard, but drugs are no answer"-talk. That's what three days without sleep do to your outward appearance. But what a ride it was.

There was a trick I used and abused with automatic transmission: hold R1 after you downshift to the desired gear before a turn.This way you can accelerate to full revs without changing to a higher gear. Don't know if after GT2 the developers still did it . Might be worth to try it. Also, when doing the licence runs, try not to accelerate to full revs before the start. That will make the wheels to spin and lose precious time. Hope this will help you. Edit: Spelling and unfinished sentence.

11:51 There is actually a solution to this problem while in manual transmission-you can BUFFER your inputs. Simply hold down the up-shift button while you're in the loading screen, and you should shift into 2nd gear on the very first frame when the license test starts.
@djbrohawk

@zeddessell
@zeddessell Жыл бұрын
@@djbrohawk Yeah, the game never actually tells you this. It's extremely useful to know about since some license tests are much easier to gold while in Manual since you can control when you shift. It's also really annoying that you can't view the stats of the car you're given in each license test. Being able to see exactly what the car's power band is would make it much easier to know when the optimal time to up-shift would be.

Not exactly the same challenge you are doing here but a lot of fun to make it through the game without buying a car. The gift cars do go along way with that. You could have dine the free races in the Honda from what i remember as it just outs similar cars to your own in those races. You made it harder by waiting to do them. To clarify from what I remember Free isn't related to horse power in that game it just means there is no license requirement. yeah - I think they were kinda feeling themselves out for the first couple of games, there are some prize cars that were a little too powerful and too easily obtained, but as we've seen with GT7, their values aren't necessarily the same as someone who takes the game(s) super seriously I believe you can get gold on B8 - some of these tests were brutal, but my take is always "If you can get close to a time, you can get the time"!

Bottom line, push forward on the stick, rotating it while holding it forward for steering.

License Test times in GTs 1 through 4 vary based on if you have NTSC_J, NTSC-US, or PAL. In most cases PAL is the hardest version with US being the easiest, with the exception of GT2's Rally Time Trials where NTSC_J has much easier times. The Cutting Room Floor has great info about the "Regional Differences." (They are missing the differences for GT3's Time Trials. IIRC, GT1 also had license test demonstrations located in Replay Theater.

With that license, you do EVERY event that's possible to enter with it before moving on to the next license. The only exception being manufacturer races (its kind of impossible to do all of those without lots of money). I had fun with it, and there's some ways to trap yourself to grind hell if you run out of money lol

As to using the stick for steering keep in mind a few things. 1) the stick controller came out years after the system was released, the system was never built with it in mind. 2) While the stick controller did come out first it was about 2 years prior to GT2 release, that is not much time to incorporate it into the game, more so when you need to consider it's brand new, there is no general method developed as of yet so everything needs to be experimented on before choosing the best option and then trying to fine tune that method.

True - the sticks have never felt that great to me, even in GT7 where they've improved it MASSIVELY - I can actually use them in GT7 but it remains to be seen how much I'll use it before then :)

Would like to mention if you use the thumb stick like and actual wheel and pick either up or down, then slowly move left or right, you can get the smoother steering. Little wonky feeling at first, but it saves on having to feather it a lot.

This is still my favourite car game of all time and it isn’t even close. By today’s standards the handling is arcade, the configurability, the variety … genuinely, it’s on a different level. I have never found another game that *really* does what this does, only prettier. Never had a PS2, would consider GT3, but didn’t click with GT4, felt the driving model had moved on and not in a good way. Realism in car games is … laughable and always will be. To my mind I’ll always accept something where gratuitous power sliding, or that sweet semi-slide is the fastest, funnest way around a corner, and this game does it better than anything else. My best friend and I played this for untold hours. No analog sticks, not required.

1:27 I'll have to say about the demonstration videos, they may be useful for just completing the licenses, but once you try to gold all licenses then they aren't that helpful. I recently played and got gold on all licenses on EU region rom and there were a few tests that was very, very hard. After banging my head against the wall for a long time I was like, "alright, I'll take a look at the demonstration" and the demo time was barely silver. At that point you know that some tests are rough when the devs couldn't make a gold time demo.

Think of the car sliding while showing 0 MPH like real life. A cars calculates it's speed by wheel spin, it's possible to lock up a cars wheels meaning no spin but the momentum will still cause the car to slide. If you live in an area with a good snow season you will experience this when still learning to drive.
@djbrohawk

Did you know that the R390 GT1 Road Car was reverse engineered from the race car? Rules back in the day said you need to have at least one homologated car to be able to enter the Le Mans 24h GT1 ( hence the name of the car) class. So Nissan went to Tom Walkinshaw Racing and together they build the LM version ( the 1997) car. after that, they reverse-engineered the race car into the car and got it homologated. This red/bordeaux road car is the original road car. It was rebuilt for the 1998 Le Mans race, most notable is the long heck the car got and its now really nice blue colour.

You can clown the Muscle Car races pretty easily. You had the weight and handling advantage for all those races. All the muscle cars are awful at handling and they also are pretty restricted for their top speed. That S2000 was a good car for it. To add you could do the Grand Touring races, it gives you the daisin silvia, the unisia jecs gtr, and castrol nsx. Those races are pretty easy and those cars can go into other races as well.
