First game I EVER played! On a Famicom my father got me when I was 4. Love this damn awesome music.

Star Soldier and Star Force were two of my favourites space shooters, extremely fast-paced!! Great review!

I had this when I was a child back when the NES was out. I remember playing the crap out of this game and I got rather good at it but never beat it. This game had a fun challenge to it that kept bringing me back. Thanks to youtube I got to go back and see what the end boss was and see the ending finally for the first time. I was rather saddend to find out the last boss was the same star brain you've fought times before and the ending wasn't anything to miss.

Spiritual sequel. Star Force was from Tecmo. Hudson did the Soldier series, and was heavily-promoted by Takahashi Meijin/Master Higgins.

like how hudson made adventure island from porting wonder boy, and bomberman from plopping their enemy sprite from their port of lode runner into eric and the floaters!

"Soldier Blade" for Turbo-Grafx16 / PC-Engine is so damn awesome, it's a sequel to this game. I don't even like Shmups all that much, but I simply love it. LOVE it. The music is incredible and the overall hectic feel gets really hypnotic. You get really sucked into it and can spend a long time just blasting enemies. Plus it looks a lot better than NES-games of course, with more vibrant colors and digital speech & sound effects. For anyone reading this, TRY it out if you get a chance. Fkn sweet

Thanks for posting this. This was an excellent game. It was also released for the MSX system in 1986. Hudson Soft made a lot of underestimated games in the past. This is one of them I think.

Love this game. Played it over and over again as a kid, and I still put it in every now and then. Still haven't beaten all 16 stages, but I've gotten dang close.

I loved this game to death. Remember getting Star Soldier Vanishing Earth on the N64 during my childhood. Remembered thinking it was terribly short compared the original Star Soldier though... this game was a LOT of fun though, highly recommened

I'm probably confused as heck, but I remember preferring to play Star Soldier instead of Star Force solely because you can just hold the shoot button and it'll be like a turbo button.

what about The Guardian Legend? they should do a review on that game, that was my space shooter when I was a kid, the music in that game is, shall I say, Legendary. Graphics and gameplay are great also. This game looks cool though, my Dad got me The Guardian Legend instead of this one if I remember correctly.

@rodrigocapitelli I know- they're so fun and SO FUCKING UNFORGIVING! I guess we're gluttons for punishment :P Ever try Life Force using the Konami Code? Or Terra Cresta? Captain Skyhawk can be fun too, but many times my ship will blow up without me having the faintest clue what the hell hit me. My personal favorite is Xevious, but it's tough as shit.

When I beat the entire game for the first time ever long after I can’t complete the entire game, it was 16 stages. After you played 16 stages of the game, you get a decent ending, but nothing special.
