Classic Game Room reviews SUPER BASEBALL for Atari 2600 from 1988. This advanced baseball game on the Atari may be too advanced, it's like the computer from Wargames.

Thank you for joining us today in beautiful downtown Sunnyvale at the legendary Atari Stadium for today's Interleague matchup between the hometown Green Blips taking on the visiting Eggshell White Bloops. Interesting matchup as thee Blips starting pitcher D. Matrix has a league leading 1.86 ERA in his last 3 games. And he'll have toughwork facing the Bloops power slugger Mike Rowe-Chip. Steve, how do you face a guy that has such command over the ball? Well you have to remember, it's technically a square they're hitting which is how Matrix has such an impressive ERA in the first place. While Rowe-Chip does have an impressive 28 homeruns so far this year, he does lead the team in strikeouts with 58. Allright, the teams have hit the field so lets get to our broadcast team of Mark Bussler, Stella and Heyzoos The Coked Up Chicken to call today's game.

that is what is amazing about the 2600 that games were still coming out in the late 80s. Hell, the genesis was out in 88/89.

Maybe Mark would like Basewars for the NES (there is combat in that one) or Super Baseball 2020 for the Genesis (robots, super jumps and land mines there). I was never a big baseball fan but some of these older simpler Baseball games are actually pretty fun with a friend.

Today I've recieved a new Atari 2600 game in my mail that I've never heard about and it's the most awesome game in my Atari 2600 collection now. It's called Dark Chamber and I call it a Maze shooter (that blows Berzerk out of the water) were you collect items, shoot different enemies and there's also a Co-op mode! I've never seen an Atari 2600 game with a 2-player co-op mode. Is Dark Chamber the only Atari 2600 game with a co-op mode that's also great when played solo or are there more Atari 2600 games with that option out there?

I used to hate baseball games, until I played Super Baseball 2020 on the NeoGeo. Robots, landmines on the field, chicks with visible cleavage, the ability to send players to the hospital by hitting them with a pitch... This game had it all!

I've been to a baseball game and honestly the ambiance and being in this historic baseball stadium is miles more exciting than the actual game. the players are like a mile away, you probably have the worst possible angle you can't tell what's going on half the time, its not my thing.

Are you insane ? This looks incredibly great for an 2600 game. For a comparison, just look at the original Atari Home Run from 1978 for the Atari 2600 (obviously also a Baseball game).

First time playing this was on the Nintendo DS on Atari Greatest Hits: Vol. 1, which was also my first introduction to Atari 2600 games. Literally couldn’t hit the ball even once. I’m guessing it’s either bad hit detection or they just didn’t animate the guy swinging the bat properly.

Wii Sports Baseball is what I prefer, even though it doesn’t compare to Super Baseball on Atari 2600. Because the Wii was newer than the Atari.

Is this games defense it's actually called ""Real Sports" Baseball and came out in 1982 (years) before the NES, it was repackaged in 1988 with a new name and intro screen.

I think baseball became popular because it's a laid back sport played mostly in the summertime (when the weather gets hot, though this mungro likes pro football), and a lot of tickets can be had for a reasonable price, which makes it family friendly. This game though? There were much better baseball games in 1988 for other systems (the R.B.I. Baseball and Bases Loaded series come to mind). Atari was kind of wheezing to the finish line at this point anyway.

I can't tell how much disdain for this game is because of the quality of the game or because it's baseball. You want a good classic baseball game? Super Bases Loaded on the SNES. At the very least, it has rockin' music.

Yes but this game came out in 1988. The Atari 2600 was surpassed by many systems at that point. If I was alive in 1977 I would have just stuck to the Arcade Machines and Pinball.
