Check out the 1960s camping gear in this late 1960s episode of the classic TV game show The Newlywed Game. Back then outdoor prizes were something...

*Television was invented in 1927, not 1967. And no, it didn't seem "years ahead of its time" it was the natural progression of radio. Television replaced radio as the dominant broadcast medium by the 1950s and took over home entertainment. Approximately 8,000 U.S. households had television sets in 1946; 45.7 million had them by 1960.* 😊

BUZZR is showing the 1997 version of The Newlywed Game. I wish that they could show the 1966-1975 versions and the syndicated versions with Bob Eubanks (who is still alive as if this post) as the host. By the way, I did meet Bob Eubanks in Branson, MO when he hosted a game show there. He called me up on the stage and I won an electric potpourri pot. I had him autograph my gift. He is a kind gentleman and a great game show host as well as a music promoter and manager.

Old set, with very high walls separating the couples. Bonus Question was 35 Points not 25 points. The announcer Scott Beach was the original choice to host the show untill Barris interviewed Bob Eubanks who was hired, and Beach was demoted to announcer. He only stayed with the show for a few episodes and was then replaced with Barriss's staff announcer Johnny Jacobs. Eubanks is 28 years old here on his first TV gig. Eubanks thankfully got much better at stretching in later shows as its very apparent how much time he had to kill to fill up the last several minutes.

All primetime shows were mandated to be in color beginning the 1966-67 u.s. television season. Daytime television didn't have that mandate. Though this is a kinescope of an episode from June or July 1966, The Newlywed Game taped in black and white between its May 1966 premiere until October 1966 when both it and the daytime version of The Dating Game switched to color videotape.
