I need to constantly remind myself just how strong wood is. I have an aluminum boat and a fiberglass boat, but both motor mounts are wooden. Wood is amazing... incredibly strong yet flexible. Alternate grain directions and you can make anything.

The Schulgleiter glider does look steampunk, varnished wood and even instrument column. Very unique, I flew in a modern confined glider and it wasn't comfortable like that model looks.

With wing suit, we take off like bird of prey, we fly at similar speed to them (not as good, far from it) and the most important is that we use our body for direction. As a sailplane pilot myself, I have watched many videos of pilots flying $100K gliders and was getting bored with it. This video is a pure delight -- the real joy of flying! And for those of you that think the pilot is crazy: from what I can tell, the aircraft is well designed and constructed, albeit minimalist, and the pilot well trained. I think the biggest risk he faced was walking his glider back to park it (after landing) while barefoot, and getting his foot stung by a bee.
