Finally, someone had the wontons to post the ' loneliness ' answer. I've heard about it but never actually heard it until now.

The best part of the John Davidson question relating to Japanese Brides is Peter Marshall's smug grin after Davidson says, "On the hole I would say." It says that Marshall set Davidson up.
@MDCSWildcats862 жыл бұрын
Actually, it was the show's writers. PM in his memoir said he only had the questions, not the gag answers----essentially the reverse of what the Squares had (an outline of the category they could be facing, a "joke" answer, and a "serious" (not necessarily correct) answer.)
@Nickrj3 Жыл бұрын
Even funnier is that Davidson later hosted Squares

I am soooo happy to see you back doing what you do so well! I grew up in L.A. (from the 1960s on). Your face and voice are a large part of my happy memories of the time. It is a delight to see, and hear, that your familiar friendly face, talent, professionalism and wonderful voice have not changed one bit. I am pleased to have the chance to Subscribe to your KZbin channel and be counted among your fans. Because... I was and I remain a fan, sir. Thanks for all the great video posts. Let's see more with you as 'on camera talent', please. Sincerely, Bill Mills

I wish MeTV could acquire reruns of this cult classic. I mean, really, do they really need to air those westerns in the afternoons?

If they did, it would most likely be once a week and culled from what GSN ran years ago (mostly the nighttime syndie).

Meanwhile, Peter Marshall knew that he set John Davidson (who would host the mid-to-late 80s version of Hollywood Squares) up with that question. That grin Peter has on his face tells us everything we need to know.

I'll never forget how the Mike Douglas show ended in the early 80's--despite having very good ratings--Mr. Douglas' production company (Group W)--decided they wanted to go after a younger demographic and essentially without any warning cancelled his show and replaced it with the "John Davidson Show"--Mr. Douglas was furious and essentially never spoke to John Davidson again--it was obviously a big mistake as Davidson's show only lasted about a year
@MrT85992 жыл бұрын
But then John Davidson ended up hosting Hollywood Squares in the mid to late 80s.

Thanks for taking a few to respond, Wink. I'm 52 and fondly remember game shows in the 70's (including Gambit). It infuriates me to see all these gossip shows, judge shows, and sleaze shows the air is saturated with these days. It's a shame we'll probably never see TV like that again.
