Great informative video Paul, when I was fitting valve stem oil seals on an A4 20 valve I made a tool that could depress the springs and dismantle the cap and collets without removing the head (with the help of my granda, who was a tool maker in an old engineering firm) the car dealer came to see how I was getting on he said (as a joke) if Audi hear that you could make a tool for that job they would have you snapped up, but I'm still waiting for that phone call.....

Very good information especially for newcomers. As I've already mentioned way back in my time we never used to bother about the value spring length, not even on the works cars, we just checked that they didn't become coilbound at full lift. I can see the advantages of it though. Instead of a magnetic screwdriver I magnetised a pair of long nosed pliers you could then put both collects on at the same time. The short videos are good but your longer ones are much better.

@@HREIRL Good, it worked for me.

We used to dip the valve top collet area in to grease, also dabbed the one side of the tip of the screwdriver in grease to hold the collets in place

That’s great idea and would work really well. Thanks for sharing chris 👍👍

HI! wonderful channel. is there a video where you work the intake ducts and exhaust ducts of a standard 1275 cylinder head like this one?

Absolutely love it. What sort of money to do this spec work to a mild road 12G940.? Are there noticeable gains to be had to go that step further and have the combustion chamber work done and a bit of porting? Thanks Paul, absolutely love your vids.

Hi Phil, drop us an email and we can give you all the details. There would be very noticeable differences with port and chamber work thats for sure thanks for tuning in

1st again. 20:00 to make sure the collets are seat correctly, do you ever give them a tap with the hammer after installation?
@HREIRL2 жыл бұрын
Hay Paul no not a fan of tapping them I prefer to just be very careful installing them to make sure I have them sitting right. But I have seen head builders tap them in the past 👍
@paulrobinson35282 жыл бұрын
@@HREIRL I was always told to do that when i was a wee lad starting his mechanics career in 1986.
@HREIRL2 жыл бұрын
Ya the main reason I don’t like doing it is it can unseat the collet and cause a problem

Another informative video, thank you. Quick question; I've just had my cylinder head fitted with new exhaust seats. I do not know who made the springs. Should I replace them with known ones, so I can get the spring height right? Thanks, Paul

What is more important is knowing what seat pressure you have and what pressure you have at full lift. What camshaft are you running ?
@paullorman89242 жыл бұрын
@@HREIRL Hi, thank you for your reply 😀 The camshaft is a SW5. Keep up the good work! Paul
