My family grew up with Oldsmobile we've had many of these models, I learned to drive on a 74 cutlass I thought I was the bomb tooling around in it.

Our driver's ed had a '71 Cutlas 4 door. Meanwhile, our family car was a '68 SAAB wagon. It was quite a jump between the American V8, automatic to the V4, manul transmission and steering! Olds, especially the Cutlass, was part of millions of American families!

I have owned two Cutlass's. Miss both of them. Learn to drive in 1968 Delmont 88.

With all of the Cutlass produced, maybe 1 in 4 Americans have either owned one or have memories of one!!! What a large car to learn one, David!! Did you have to parallel park ( or dock ) the Delmont for your driver's test??

@@carshowreporter Docked it just fine. Dad chose the 2bbl, low compression 455, but it had long legs on the highway. I remember driving it on road trips at 90mph when I got my license, with mom and dad, plus sisters in car. With bias ply tires!! We all survived.

She probably was not even breathing hard!!! Gobs of torque in a low stress engine.

@@carshowreporter Father always chose the economy engine. Our 1959 Star Chief had the 2BBL 389. I was a child, but remember seeing that 2BBL while dad changed the points.

As for the '42, the front end design was atrocious, to my eyes. It looked like the car had been in an accident that took out the lower half of the grille! The rest of the car was stunning. As for the Toronado, the first one to show up at the Olds dealer in Marietta, Ohio was silver, with black interior. Which was not common in those days. It was bought by my doctor! Not my favorite car of the 60s, but in the top 3.

I totally agree with you on the Old's grille!!! A perfect example of stylist hash!!! " Hey, look at this wide grille!" Neat! " How about my long, thin, grille? " Nice!! " We need more grille, so let's put a little, chrome, topper on it all...like whipped cream on a chrome sundea!! " " I think we have a winner, boys!! " That "66 Toronado must have been a standout in Marietta!!!! What are your number 1 and 2 designs of the '60's, Tom? Tough choice!!!
@tombrown1898 Жыл бұрын
@@carshowreporter That IS a tough question. My first choice is the 1963 Grand Prix. Second is either the 1961 Continental or the 1967 Eldorado.

Wow, you do like BIG cars and sharp lines, Tom!! When I was 18, I was looking at a '61 Continental for an everyday driver. It was in good condition ( gray ) and only about $200. Still in school, the gas mileage, or lack of it, was my deciding factor.

@@carshowreporter In spring 1987, I got a new company car, a gray Taurus, and to show it off I took a customer to lunch---Bob Best, Wastewater and Sewer Superintendent of Hardin County, KY. "Well, Bob, whaddya think?" "Kinda looks like a turd---tapered on both ends." So yeah, I DO like big, angular cars! BTW, what did you end up getting, if not the Continental?

A 1966 Dodge van!!!!! It was the early 70's, after all!!! I went from the the living room to the unfinished basement!!!! The aero style was commonly, and rightly referred to a jellybean or a melted candy bar, in mixed company, but they sold!!! Did the transmission fail while you had the Ford???

I own a '79 98 Regency Coupe. Has the 403 engine and cloth interior. Nice but not a valuable car. It is special to me as I bought it new. Msrp was $11,100. That won't even buy you a decent used vehicle in 2023.

There are many, nice cars which are very enjoyable to own and drive, as well as show at a local cruise or show!! Nice ride, Ted!! How many miles on your old friend?
