Agreed! Would love to hear about what someone new to or returning to the game should look at, product wise. The Bully seems like just about the only rtr game in town. I don't need to compete, but I'd love to have a crawler to build and tweak on! Maybe a video on what to look at these days?

John - You forgot to mention that this was designed by your old friend Stampede Project who exclusively licensed the design to Fast Lane Machine FLM. As I recall you did really well with the chassis. The design "did break all mold" of anything else that was on the market all while complying with the tuber rules. Glad to see this is still in circulation. I still see these on ebay custom crawler builds...etc. It was what we had to work with. Keep it up.

I know you are a crawler guy but also I know your esc’s are castle based. I’m getting into no prep & it’d be cool to see a video on using the advanced timing option like the C. H. E. A. T. Settings & stuff. Nobody has a good video explaining it & showing how it affects the motor. Not sure if I even keep the function in your esc. But just throwing it out there seeing how the no prep scene is getting big right now.

My oldest crawler is my custom built Jeep from 2006. The chassis is designed by me and is no where near correct Im sure but it runs and crawls. It has TLT axles and a Traxxas Stampede transmission. Runs an HPI Jeep body and is color matched to my 98 Jeep TJ. Links, cross members, rollcage, chassis mounted servo mount, and custom interior all done by me. Its not perfect but it has been in several local comps and done ok. But this year it is going into retirement and will just be used for fun and trail runs. Oldest all around RC is my Kyosho Double Dare I picked up this past Feb at a swap meet. My plan is to restore it and use it as a show truck.

I do hear you talk a lot about 'geometry'. Can you spare the time explaining it a video? I do know the concept of anti-squat. But no idea what values to aim for when building chassis for different (style) rigs. Trail/scale (class0), go-everywhere (scx10, VS4-10, enduro, Capra) or racer (Bomber, Yeti-ish). Would be appriciated. Thnx in advance.

I was completely out of the hobby game by the time axial released the first scx10. A good buddy bought one and after about 3 hours worth of me telling him how stupid rock crawling was I got hooked back into the hobby. Sadly I got fed up with that dingo constantly breaking drive shafts and shock hoops and I sold it. About a year ago my brother won a trx4 bronco and I got hooked again. Tried my luck with a scx10 ii but that was a mistake now I'm rocking a vs410/trx4 hybrid that gets the job done and never breaks down. Thanks Holmes for the awesome motors.

Never been into comp crawlers, but I have driven class 1 and 2 scale class. I joined the Scale4x4 forum in 05' and been there ever since. To bad the forum is down atm, but the owner have told me he is working on the issues. My oldest rc vehicle is from 80' ish, and most of my collection is vintage Tamiya ones. But I still own TLT shocks and the grey Stampede gearbox. I even have the boxes from my two TLT's and some of the orginal parts as I used the axles for my scale builds. Also have parts from the 1gen AX10 which came out in 08' I belive. I guess the my oldest "crawler" parts is those from TLT. Still have the silver Courier build with TLT axles from the Scale4x4 forum fresh in my head, and that is what started my scale/crawler interest. I belive that build was posted in 05' when I joined the forum. TLT's came out in late 03' (source Tamiyabase)

I built one with Scx10ii parts. Yes it sucks, BUT for blasting around the yard it was sorta fun. It would lift one wheel coming out of turns. And when I hit a bump that would launch a crawler into the air. It basically roll over the ramp and never left the ground. It is what I toss junk parts at and just sitting around.

My first rc was from RadioShack and it was a dune buggy red I don't remember the name of it but I was young. But the first one I had to put together was The lunchbox the first run of it in like 1990 or 1991. I loved it. now I have an actual scorpion ax10 that the side plates are the only thing that are original on it. Turned it into a rock racer that's brushless now with a 2 speed transmission. Fast and very fun to run.

I'm brand new to RC crawling. I bought the SCX10-III builders kit around the 2nd week of January 2021. It took me a couple weeks to get all my electronics, so I've been crawling for about 2 weeks now. As I do with most things, I dived straight into the deep end and have spent more than $1500 on this rig with all the upgrades I've made. The Crawl Space near Denver, CO has indoor crawler comps every Friday. I went to check it out a couple nights ago and I think I can do alright. My dream is to get my own CNC mill and lathe and build my own rig from scratch, but I don't think my wife will ever let me spend that kind of money. She still thinks I've only spent about $500 on my SCX10. What she doesn't know won't hurt her right?

It still has the original V1 BRXL esc and all of the chassis hop ups that I installed when I first built it. It now has 10.2 axles and has had 3 sets of transmission gears and ohhhhhh...... however many bearings there are times 5. I bet you the chassis has close to 25k miles if not more and I stopped counting how many motors I've been through.

My oldest RC....Well, it's not even hobby grade, and def hasn't seen use since the mid 90's - that would be my Tyco mini Bandit. Oldest hobby grade RC, again hasn't seen any use for 6 (maybe 7) years would be my T-Maxx 3.3 from around 2008. I simply grew tired of rebuilding the motor in it, and yep the motor needs a fresh rebuild... Got several other oldies, but if talking crawlers specifically, then my SCX10 II Honcho is the oldest (only been into RC Crawling for 2 years). I try not to collect too many parts I don't use - sure I keep some spare parts on hand I know I'll eventually use, but I do try not to have old parts around that will never get used. I did have some stuff (an old but hot touring car motor, ESC, and a fast (though extremely weak on torque) servo) that was kicking aroud in a box that was taken out of use, but I did recently put them into service once again in the most ridiculous street/parking lot basher I ever took on.

Do you know about Traxxas’s power up? You send in your old junk motor and for 1/2 price they’ll send you a brand new one, hobby shop can do it too. Worth it if your wanting to scratch that nitro itch
@nukedathlonman4 жыл бұрын
@@mikes062 I know about it, but I don't know if it's on offer in Canada (prob is). Either way, I'm not overly worried as I know it only needs a new sleeve and piston (much cheaper then even half price of a new motor). But I'm tired of doing that, and tired of the weak bulk heads. If I was to do anything then I'd rather get a new X-Maxx or the Kraton (neither are an option at this time - got much bigger worries). On top of which, these days I prefer trail driving (which makes my last project even more of an oddity).
@mikes0624 жыл бұрын
Reggie Reginato that’s cool, thought I’d let you know in case. My brother has been into the hobby a bit longer than me and told me from the start not to get into nitro because I’d j probably just get annoyed by it, which I did, I don’t know enough about working on and keeping that stuff going. I’ve had a couple and while they were cool for a little bit I just got rid of them. I like to just throw a battery in and go. Just check with your local hobby shop if you decide to look into it, a complete 3.3 is like $110 last I knew, I’m not sure about Canada though, I’d assume you could though. I’ve got aluminum bulk heads in my emaxx so it’s not a problem for me. The x Maxx is pretty awesome though!

That's cool. Normal maintenance like tuning, doing the after run oiling, etc. I didn't find to be a problem. If I was still into bashing, I probably would have changed over to an OS .21 like my friend did with his Revo 3.3 (the time between cylinder pinching/resleeving and pistons went down significantly for him). :-)
