Please show/say more on your finger/hand angle. I love the diagrams you superimpose over your models. Just some times if you don't mention about your holding position and the angle of your fingers, it looks like it's straight out at a 90 degree angle when in fact it's around a 45 degree to build that weight line around the ridge point. All in all, your education is very inspiring and motivating. Thank you Michael

Thanks Mark, I have made one video on overdirection where I discuss angles but don’t tend to go too in-depth on other videos. For a number of reasons. I am trying to keep the videos as simple as possible, my clients are also kind enough to let me film, I don’t want to advantage of them. If I start filming hand position and angles I will be there all day. All that said I will think about how I can include some of that info in future videos

@@theoneminutebarber BTW I heard you talking with one of your customers about where you get most of your online viewers/classes, I think he said, the USA? That's where I am. I understand about the hand angle thing. No worries. I bet whatever graphics you use to show the partings and directions, I bet you can somehow use those graphics and superimpose it over your fingers. Eh, just an idea. All considering, I really am eating this stuff up, Thank You again! I can't wait to join in your classes. I'm copying a bunch of hair dresser head sheets so I can draw your diagrams on them and practice. Last thing. Over here practice heads are crazy expensive do you know of any place that has them cheaper or that give discounts on bulk orders? Cheers PS: what is your name? where are you located? Mark

Hey Mark, my name is Michael and I’m based in Scotland. The animations that I’ve been applying to the videos are really popular I think most people are visual learners and a picture speaks a thousand words. Sections and angles is something that college spends about a month teaching. It’s fundamental. I will put some thought into how I can include more of that type of information. I think you should focus on this one thing just now. A good section should have a base that is no wider than the two fingers picking it up. If it’s too wide you will get over and under direction at the front and back of the section and have an uneven finish.

@@theoneminutebarber Thanks Michael. I caught my mistake after I asked your name, because I addressed you by your name initially, LOL. Yes thanks for the technical advice. I have always parted my sections on women's cuts pretty well. BTW, I have been checking out other independent instructors on KZbin and they just don't compare to your arrangement of visual aid and dialogue. You are the Man! Scotland? Beautiful. Never been there but I always wanted to witness it's beauty. Cheers

Years ago I was only trained on ladies hair and got really bored of it so I quit. I can't believe how much men's hair has changed since I trained 30 odd years ago. Love your metholodgy too.

What shears should a barber have. Do you recommend more than one. And also what length, and for what technique? I currently have one 6.5 inch shears and texturizing shears.
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber Жыл бұрын
Good questions AJ, I use a 6" for shorter work like texturising and a 7" for scissor over comb. Both have a convex blade which is superior to a bevel edge. Anything with a convex edge is normally on harder steel. And an immense joy to cut with.

@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber 2 жыл бұрын
It's hard finding people to start with. My advice would be find someone who has a clipper cut and ask them if you can do some scissor practice on them before clipering. Then clipper it short enough to remove any imperfections from the scissor practice.
