John, this is inspiration to restore my 63 bug. It was my first car purchased in '73 so it's been around a long time. If I put the rebuilt motor in, I could probably drive it but then it would never get done. You did a beautiful job!

I owned a 1963 Beetle, patched the holes and new floor. Formed cedar plank wood running boards. New paint & heater boxes. I also owned a 1200 1969 Beetle. Then a new 1973 Widow Van Kombi All my first cars. Drove the Van for 15 years and sold it for half of what I paid new. Thanks for posting this video. Good work.

I rode in a 1966 Beetle in January, in Wisconsin and I can never remember a more colder ride. I was scraping ice off the inside of the windshield while the guy driving was trying to shift the darn thing. Great video and nice job of restoration.

Wonderful video. Great time-lapse and amazing speed. Our family had a 1963 Convertible when I was a newborn until I was 8 yrs old. We have old pictures of it. So many happy memories. Moved up to a Datsun 510 wagon because mom 'needed the room'.

My first car was a 63 Beetle (the one with the gas gauge) and I drove it from Hamburg to Casablanca and later the Canary Islands. It died on a sturdy tree on Christmas of 1966 in Las Palmas, due to a stupid driver error...mine! I really loved that car.

Great work guys! I just wonder did you painted the cylinders too? If you did, that is a mustake because it stops the air flow and this is a aircooled car. Top work, keep it up!

At 1:51, view of the refurbished front wheel brakes, the return springs are in the wrong position. The larger spring should be near the wheel cylinder and the lighter spring should be near the adjuster.

I have an old 65 beetle in original condition, and this looks great! But why would you want to have modern and "flashy-looking" plastic speakers in a car which otherwise respects the originality of the design. In my opinion they don´t fit with the rest of the beautiful car... :)

We should clarify. This '63 VW Beetle was one of the first cars we restored about 4 years ago. We were operating our new start up business out of 2 older buildings (to keep overhead costs down being a new start up business) and tried to perform most of the "dirty work" outside the shop on the gravel parking lot. We also tried to enjoy the outdoor sunshine & fresh air as much as possible! After 4 years of performing many restorations, we have built a brand new building ! Thanks for your comment.

Thanks, Good luck with your '62 Beetle. Maybe you could show us photos of your car! John Nizman

Love the car and the work put into it. A wonderful product. You did however miss the opportunity to really "trick it out" due to the lack of the rear bumper mounted BACKUP LIGHT which was one of the only two options available from Volkswagen for this vehicle when purchased new. A Beautiful Restoral....! By the way, my then new Dark Blue 1964 VW (which was actually built in 1963) was named Bletzmeyer. I still miss him.

Something about this color... this video was also my inspiration to choose that color and I bought sample of 1 dcl L380 in specialized color shop (they are working with Wolfsburg, Germany, with the best color companies in Europe, and they have "farbkarten" with original recipes of color for each year). I asked for Turquoise green L380 , 1963 (VW code) and they found it in a computer and mixed it to me (original). When I applied this color on my old "kotflugel" (mudguard) I was shocked! It was (like we said) deadmen green without any brightness and life in self. And it was GREEN! Just a little bit of green more and it would looks like military vehicle! Catastrofe! Conclusion: Color on this video is not L380 of VW farbkarten. I would say that it is rather "licht blau" (on video) then any turquoise. Good luck everybody who chose that! I am sorry for my bed english :D but you will understand Davor Bulut, Slavonian restoration, Valpovo, Croatia

+davidgriffin14 if you check out max willson's channel his father rebuilt a 68' bug and he said the restoration cost was under 5 grand so its teasable the 63' model costs as much to rebuild.
