After the WDM2 show, I was looking forward to an exciting run behind WAM4 #20542 that took over at Itarsi. Fortunately, it had a melodious horn which was used liberally throughout the journey. Be sure to enjoy the following:
Departures of Kashi and Lucknow-Chennai Expresses from Itarsi
Fast run through the Itarsi yard at sunrise
Skips of Banapura, Harda and Raver
Passage through a now defunct section, just before Bir, due to realignment
Unscheduled halt at Khandwa (where we met the Kushinagar Exp.)
Crossing the Tapti river just before Bhusaval
WAM4 parade at Bhusaval
The journey from Mughalsarai till Itarsi is here - • Amazing ALCO! Terrific...
The journey from Bhusaval till Igatpuri is here - • Classic WAM4 Run from ...

One of the greatest depression/sad feeling of childhood... Arriving at the final station and getting out of railway station/junction ..Looking back again and again at the station building in order to get final view of the train visible in the little gap in between.the building partitions..Developing an attachment for the train in which we travelled for the entire day and subsequently missing it for the next few days and longing for the next trip..... Nostalgic 90's

@@ManiVijay Actually now the station is served by only one train, 51684 Bir Khandwa Shuttle (3 times a day) which was started after a gap of more then 6 months after closure of railway station. In those 6 months of closure of railway station, the businesses dependent on railway station like restaurants were nearly closed which unfortunately claimed a life (suicide of one restaurant owner). But now with this shuttle, things are normal again as people from nearby villages also commute to bir rly stn as it is a cheaper option. So the usual hustle-bustle of railway station came back with it to some extent

@@vramakrishnan8965 Terrific! Just like you, I am also a Tamilian born in Varanasi and lived there for six years. Also lived in Bombay for a number of years. Relocated to USA in 1985. You must have enjoyed the amazing livery of Ganga Kaveri and Sarnath. Yes, they used to share rakes and had that brilliant red-blue-two blue stripes-one yellow stripe livery. If you can connect on FB with me, I can take you a liveries page where a friend has created all those bygone liveries. My blood boils when I think of all those Varanasi trains that have got extended to Bihar - Chhapra in particular. I still remember by Dadar-Varanasi Exp. in the late 60s. That and Bombay Mail to Mughalsarai. I actually saw the inaugural Mahanagri rake - all cream-blue and decorated with flowers.

Mani Vijay Yes I absolutely loved this video. As for my train journeys with a WAM series locomotives, I’d have to say most have been very short ones between ADI and BRC. I remember a couple of trips on one of my favorite childhood trains Gujarat Queen which runs between Valsad and Ahmedabad. As much as I love trains and train journeys, the longest trips I’ve had were from Vadodara to New Delhi, New Delhi to Pathankot, and ADI to Kathgodam through Agra. Of course many between BRC-ADI and BRC-BCT. I wish I can have more throughout rest of India 😊

Yes, those days majority of the 90% mail/express trains in AC traction ran by a Brown/Maroon colored WAM 4 Loco with a yellow stripe and with a WDM loco of the same color as described just now about WAM 4 loco according to the Electric and Diesel Traction and the coaches where also full Maroon with a yellow stripe sometimes.
@HarpreetKaur-bl5jq
@HarpreetKaur-bl5jq 4 жыл бұрын
After the coaches of the mail/express trains became Blue post 2000, the Tata/Bhilai type WAM 4 locomotives are mostly used; having Red & yellow colour with Blue stripe in Electric sections and the Red-White-Navy Gray colored WDM locomotive are used in Diesel sections entirely till 2010/16.
@ManiVijay
@ManiVijay 4 жыл бұрын
Back then, we had WAM4s running from various sheds - Bhusaval, Itarsi, Katni, Vijayawada, etc.
@HarpreetKaur-bl5jq
@HarpreetKaur-bl5jq 4 жыл бұрын
Yes but Tata/Bhilai WAM 4 Locomotives I feel more suitable for Mail/Express Trains in Blue Liveries like Maroon Wam 4 were perfectly Matching for the Maroon Coaches. Also, I feel, WAP5/7(for Superfasts) and Tata/Bhilai WAM 4(for mail/express) as the perfect replacement for WCAM2P/3(for superfasts) and WCAM 1/WCG2(for mail/Express) respectively in ADI-BCT and Bombay-Poona sections respectively; after the line converted to Pure AC..Also, I feel, WAP5/7 must haul only the LHB coached Superfasts whereas WAP1/4 must haul only the other Non-LHB superfasts and WAM 4 must only haul the Non-LHB, Non-Superfasts mail/express trains along with the WDM locos at equal ease. Also, NDM/ZDM must be preserved along with some NG trains and few small passenger trains in BG lines like Anand-Khambhat/Vadtal, Vadodara-Kathana, Nadiad-Kapadvanj and also few passenger trains in unelectrified sections, must be only hauled by the WDS-4/6 shunters by preserving them
@HarpreetKaur-bl5jq
@HarpreetKaur-bl5jq 4 жыл бұрын
In simple words.. Small Passenger trains with 5-6 coaches in BG unelectrified sections must be only hauled by the WDS-4/6 shunter, by preserving those locos and these trains must only be restricted to small unelectrified sections. Few NG trains must be retained along with their typical NDM/ZDM losos having Cab at the centre of the loco. WAP1/4 must haul only the Superfast but Non-LHB trains and these trains must only operate in Fully-Electrified sections. WAP5/7 must only haul the LHB Superfast trains and these trains must only operate in end to end Fully-Electrified sections. All Non-LHB as well as Non-Superfast Mail/Express trains only must be hauled by both Diesel and Electric Locomotives by making them Operated at both Electrified as well as unelectrified sections at Equal Ease. These trains must be only hauled by WAM 4 in Electrified Sections along with WDM locos in unelectrified sections at Equal ease. That's what will make Indian Railway as a totally Perfect picture.

The yellow lights in those days used to reflect the window and the person shadow in sleeper class on the ground outside very accurately, that is lost with the white lights now. But overall hurray to my Indian railways :)

Ah, yes, I realized it. My oldest videos from Tamilnadu in 1992 - you must have already seen those. Dadar-Madras trip, MG Pandian trip. 1995 - you must have been my Chennai Exp. videos till Guntakal. I have to upload footage from Guntakal onwards. Then there is 2000 Nellai trip - you would have seen Tirunelveli-Madurai and Villupuram-Egmore portions of it. Rest to be uploaded.

Track sounds plays a huge role in my IR journeys. And listening to those sounds is almost at a subconscious level, it's so ingrained in me. I definitely miss the ICF track sounds, some LHB is not quite the same.
