In this edition of #thedailydoug, I'm listening to music from international sensation Dimash for the first time. He's singing SOS d'un terrien en détresse, a song originally written in the late 1970's. I had never heard of him nor heard him sing before, and I was quite taken with his talent and impeccable technique. I hope you enjoy!

Dimash is a 29-year-old Kazakh vocalist and composer; He speaks Kasakh, Russian and English and is learning Mandarin Chinese. He sings in more than 14 languages, plays 7 musical instruments. He graduated from the Kazakhstan University of Arts with a master's degree in composition and I was informed that he has already completed a doctorate in musicology. He also dances, acts and is an advertising model (he is 6.3 feet tall). He has received countless awards and honors around the world. He was recently in Los Angeles, USA, working on new material of his that his fans (he affectionately calls us "dears") are looking forward to. He is a kind, polite and compassionate person, proud of his culture and his country.

It is so refreshing to finally find a reactor that took the time to do his own research on Dimash. So many others dive into Dimash and then ask the listeners to bring them up to speed. Excellent job. Now, all you have to do is sit back and be amazed at his talent. Dimash does vocal training for 3-5 hours a day, every day. He made a statement that if you were to cut open his heart, you would see music. I hope you continue to listen to Dimash. He is not just a singer. He is a true performer and totally immerses himself in every song he sings. He has input into everything about his music. He still does vocal training for 3-5 hours a day every day. He also had a concert in New York that sold out. There were "Dears", the name he has given his fans, from 47 States and 54 countries. With all that he has going for himself, he is a very humble person and never misses an opportunity to acknowledge everyone who works with him. Before you become too inundated with suggestions, I would like to recommend Love Is Like A Dream, Sinful Passion, Your Love, Oplympico, Ave Maria, Ikanaide, Love Of Tired Swans, and Stranger. Thank you again for this video and I look forward to more of Dimash from you.

I discovered Dimash 2 months ago, and since then have had to listen to him every day as many times as I can fit in. I try to listen to all his songs, but some still pop up that I had not yet heard. My daily "must hear" is Ikanaide (Japanese for Don't go), which is from the Tokyo 2021 (? might be 2020) Jazz Festival. He sings it in studio, and is wearing a handsome heather green sweater. I also love The Story of One Sky music video (the mini movie that took 3 years for Dimash to write, compose, and act in, because it was a very complex project, with movie-theater quality cinematography. It is about the horror of war, and what we must do to end war. 13 minutes plus long. It is difficult to watch, but if you realize that the meaning of the video is to choose life, it is easier. I love it and have watched it at least 100 times.

I see my fellow Dears have already made a number of suggestions, in relation to Dimash's long and impressive list of songs. I have been a Dear for almost 7 years now and I am more impressed by him, as a musician and as a human being (Dimash is a magnificent soul!) than I was in February 2017, when I first heard him sing SOS! Of all the vocalists I've encountered thus far in my 71 years, Dimash, in my book, is number one - followed by Barbra Streisand! I think you would marvel at his (and Igor Krutoy's) rendition of "Ave Maria" and of course Dimash's 15 minute movie, entitled "The Story of One Sky", which he wrote and composed. Who is Dimash? Only the singer of the millennia. From Kazakhstan, beginning his singing career at age 5 (he's 29 now), Dimash was accepted into the most distinguished music academy in his country. His range extends from the top of the bass register to the highest notes of the coloratura soprano and whistle register. His first digital music album "ID" went platinum in only 37 seconds after release, and 3x platinum in only one hour, and 5x platinum in only one day on Chinese music platforms In December 2019, he made his US debut in New York at the Barclays Center. Dears (those he calls his fans) traveled from 68 different countries, 43 states & 2 US territories, and was sold out. Now writing his Doctoral thesis for a PhD in Musicology/ Composing, received all his degrees with honors while simultaneously filling arenas and maintaining his performing career, a first! He has a bachelors degree in vocals, a master's degree in composition and is about to complete his PhD in musicology this year. Perhaps his admiration is focused on the fact that Dimash can sing in 14 different languages and has a vocal range of 7.7 octaves, with his highest note being a D8 (off the end of a piano keyboard).

I saw Dimash live in NYC at Barclays prior to the pandemic, and his ability surpassed them all. His command and control of his voice is practically beyond comprehension. Amazing.

Dimash is a brilliant musical artist and Man. You can say about his range - going back and forth with himself. "Stranger" is next.

Some things that make Dimash a different singer are his absolute pitch and the ability to perceive and reproduce microtonalities (which currently reach 32 semitones and which is not a common scale in the West, which uses the well-tempered scale of 7 tones and 5 semitones ). He is also a phenomenal composer and arranger, a fact that complements his singing, as everything that needs to be done is already built into his mind! Dimash is a graduate of the University of the Arts in piano, opera, contemporary and jazz, has a master's degree in composition, plays seven musical instruments and is currently completing a doctorate in musicology. The complexity of the works created by Dimash (such as “The Story Of One Sky” and “El Amor En Ti”) demonstrates that, in addition to being a singer, Dimash can assert himself as one of the most talented modern composers!

I think you'd really like Olympico. Dimash in general is pretty fantastic stuff and youll see more sides of him the more you watch. Hes a superstar in the Eastern world but is trying to make a name for himself in the west as of recently. Not all of his stuff is the flashy stuff, but thats usually what gets recommended because the flashier stuff is what makes him such an outstanding artist. I'd recommend listening to some of the less reacted to performances on Dimash's channel, to prove that its not about ego (as people have falsely said that in the past)

Sir, just to let you know honestly, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Dimash utizes his range to express the emotion, he is always asked about his range, which he says is not important, what is important is to allow the listeners to escape their reality and its important to Dimash to convey the proper emotion needed for each song. He also uses his voice like an instrument, violin or traditional instrument. I do hope that you continue with this journey, Dimash’s character equals his talent, at the beginning of this song, in the right had corner, it said Charity Partner Project Cure, if you read Wikipedia, while the information is very outdated, read about Humanitarian, he is also an Ambassador of Peace ❤.

I'm happy that you have taken a listen to Dimash also! I really enjoy listening to reactors who know music, because they appreciate what Dimash is able to do right away! Oh yes, we have many songs to recommend! I think you would enjoy watching a song he composed himself and sang at a recent concert. It's in Spanish and is called "El Amor en Ti". The lyrics were written by a Spanish speaker on his behalf. You will get to have a good listen to some of his different vocal ranges and there is a surprise at the end. Another great song of his that is a must see is "Stranger" from New Wave. Just be aware that it is almost always blocked by KZbin so you will probably need to stop it a few times throughout the song and put some sort of screen over it. But it's worth it! Enjoy! 🇨🇦

I would especially love to here your reaction to songs he has written, especially his 2 most recent compositions: Omir and The Story of One Sky. However, these would be best to wait on until you've digested some of his other material and gotten to know him a little more. Omir is a composition he wrote for his fans on his birthday and it is basically his thoughts on his career and his life up to this point. The Story of One Sky is his magnum opus to date. He spent 3 years composing it and wrote the storyline for the music video (really a mini movie!). That song is about the need for world peace. You should definitely react to the music video at some point. It is quite heavy and has some difficult moments to watch, but it is amazing.

Hi Doug, believe me this one song is only a fraction of all he does… I hope you go down the Dimash rabbit hole :) Check out Olimpico- the version from his live concert you will find it on composer Igor Krutoy’s channel (thumbnail has a ring of white lights)- very operatic, Ave Maria (a new composition just for him, out of this world), Stranger from New Wave (this is in English, it feels like it belongs in a fantasy film, you must see this but this 1 in particular has issues with copyright so definitely you want to blur or otherwise do something to the image). He has literally dozens of masterpieces. You’d love also Know… look for live version in white suit

@@EdanDavey Dimash's version was specifically written for him by Igor Krutoy, who came out of retirement when he heard Dimash sing, because he said he had been waiting all his life for a singer like him, who appreciates the poetry and history in a song, not just phoning in performances. Dimash lives his songs. Igor wrote many songs for Dimash, and plays piano for him during performances of the songs he wrote. Igor is the good looking bald man, at the piano and often in the audience of Dimash's concerts. They became very great friends. Igor makes full use of Dimash's ever-expanding musical range and styles of singing. The Ave Maria is new, and the amazing thing is that it has no words, so it is literally for everyone.

Liked your reaction so much. It was so nice to watch someone review him with some research ahead of time rather than going in cold and clueless. Most will tell you while this is awesome, this is only the very tip of the Dimash iceberg. I started wriiting a list of my favorite songs of his but stopped when I got to 50. His first real breakthrough was in China in 2017 in the show The Singer. He was put in as a "ringer" up against all professional singers. He sang S.O.S. as the first contestant and the internet crashed in China. Later, when his first album came out there, it took 37 seconds to go platinum and was triple platinum in the first hour. If you want to watch him sing one of his own compositions, Unforgettable Day, which he wrote at 19, he performs wonderfully on The Singer. It is a nice place to start. I hope you continue the Dimash journey and know you will notice the composer, especially when it is Dimash. It can be frustrating to watch a reviewer be amazed at his incredible performance of El Amor En Ti at Almaty but not know he COMPOSED it at the request of his Spanish speaking fans. Enjoy your journey. Welcome to Dimash....

👍👍👍👏👏👏🌷💕🌷💕Great comments and analysis and reaction!!! So happy you found Dimash, for he is indeed the greatest singer of all time! However amazing SOS was, it was only the tip of the iceberg of Dimash’s talent. These were neither the lowest nor the highest notes he can sing. Actually the highest in record so far is a D8, which he inadvertently sang in Unforgettable Day (a song he composed at age 17) at the 2017 Gakku music festival. He never did it again, possibly because he doesn’t do high notes for show but to underline emotions. His lowest appear in several songs. He can sing in any style as you sampled already, and loves mixing them within one song or one line. Suggestions for more Dimash: For Olympic level vocal acrobatics: Sinful Passion. For variety of styles: Stranger. For classical style: Ti Amo Cosi (trio with Lara Fabian and Aida Garifullina). Ballad: Adagio (version at Singer 2017). Rock: Go Go Power Rangers; Queen Medley (with the Super Vocal Boys); pop and rap: Be with Me (the MV). Jazz funk and folk: Dudarai (on cctv 1). Just marvelous: Love Is like a Dream; Know (especially the Vocalise version); The Love of Tired Swans; The Meaning of Eternity. Examples of genius: The Story of One Sky (the musical mini movie); El Amor en Ti. These are for starters. Looking forward to your reactions!!!👍🌷

In addition to his voice, he is using so many musical and arrangement techniques to tell the story and to support the message that he wants to get across that you should be able to talk about it for hours.
