I was at that gig 😀. Apart from the bands, I’ll never forget how enormous the PA system was. The average Sound Pressure Level at the mixing tower was 118dB, peaking at a maximum of 124 dB during Iron Maiden's set. It took five days to set up the system. »

Must have been insane at Donington that year. Kiss, Megadeth & Guns N Roses with Maiden headlining. What a lineup. Metallica also played on the Monsters of Rock bill in europe that year, opening for Maiden who were the headliners of the European Monsters of Rock Festival(s). Sad that 2 (or was it 3?) fans died during Guns N Roses set, the guys in Maiden weren't told (by their manager) until after their set, because he (the manager, Rod Smallwood) didn't want to spoil their set.. This tragic accident led to large crows being split in two (and sometimes four) to avoid people in the front being stamped to death if the crowd suddenly surged towards the stage, as had happened that day.

Just made it to the main arena in time to see the vid screen slump by the side of the stage due to the crowd surge after GnR started - leading to tragic consequences (which we only learned about once back on the bus). A fab day, Maiden were amazing - the energy! Exit queues were horrendous and bus finally left the site around 2am - made it back home at 7am. (Also, lucky to see the 2013 Donny 'Maiden England' set inspired by the 1988 appearance.)

Also both of you are starting to appreciate metal music at the same time. Adding that you should consider bring some Savatage to your videos. One of the best metal bands in history and Im 100% sure they will fit into your tastes. The use of piano, vocals (Elizabeth would enjoy the glorious voice of Jon Oliva along with multi voices incorporated in last albums) and tasteful music is a gem to discover. Great reaction video to a fantastic song. I enjoy playing it on my guitar to this day. Me and my best buddy were at that Monsters of Rock festival at Donington, England in 1988. It was super crazy and lots of fun but marred by the tragic death of about 2 people when some stage scaffolding collapsed at the front. The was over 100,000 in attendance and at times it was chaotic and somewhat dangerous looking back; lots of crowd crushes and surging forward towards the stage. The Clairvoyant have been one of my top Iron Maiden songs since the day I heard it, literally the day after Seventh Sonf Of A Seventh Son was released in 1988. I was in my eighth grade band class and our teacher was out so we basically had a free period because the substitute wasn’t a musician. It was also the last period of the school day. My friend Jerry had just got it the day before and of course he commandeered the stereo, popped in the cassette and boom… mind blown. I was already an Iron Maiden fan by then. "The Clairvoyant" Feel the sweat break on my brow Is it me or is it shadows that are dancing on the walls? Is this a dream or is it now? Is this a vision or normality I see before my eyes? I wonder why, I wonder how That it seems that the power's getting stronger every day I feel a strength an inner fire But I'm scared I won't be able to control it anymore There's a time to live and a time to die When it's time to meet the maker There's a time to live, but isn't it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying There's a time to live and a time to die When it's time to meet the maker There's a time to live, but isn't it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying Just by looking through your eyes He could see the future penetrating right in through your mind See the truth and see your lies But for all his power couldn't foresee his own demise There's a time to live and a time to die When it's time to meet the maker There's a time to live, but isn't it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying There's a time to live and a time to die When it's time to meet the maker There's a time to live, but isn't it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying ...and be reborn again?

Such a great song. One of their best, and it sounds great on the piano too Doug!

What a fine song this is ! And how easy you got into it with your piano, it´s just amazing to watch. Keep´em comin´! And as many have suggested, you should do some of Bruce Dickinson´s solo stuff, there are gems there, quite different from Maiden with the wonderful voice of him. Some songs come to mind: Jerusalem, Book Of Thel, Darkside Of Aquarius, quite recommended.

Seventh Son was, IMO, and still is Maiden's best album. From A to Z. It has that special feeling and not a single weak song. Keep the Maiden Monday, Doug. It makes my Mondays happier for sure. A suggestion if I may. Finnish band Wintersun. The song is Time, live rehearsal from Sonicpump studio. You will be blown away. I guarantee you. It is jampacked with musical goodies 😊🤘

And focus on those melodies, for once! Guitar melodies are the soul of the band. Not so much the chords.

Yes! The melodies from the 7:50 mark and onwards in The Red and the Black are just soaring level by level up through heights of redemption one would think impossible!

Didn't make Donington (Monsters of Rock) that year but saw Maiden play this in Whitley Bay the same year (1988) Absolutely Brilliant.

And Bruce D. is a super accomplished pilot and has flown the band around the world in their 747!

This isn’t a live performance, it’s the album version playing over live footage. Not sure why as the actual live performance to go with this footage is available and it’s really good. They even added the crowd noise over the top too. Weird, but I’d know the album version anywhere.

Great stuff! Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, was always one of my top favourite albums of Iron Maiden! Going through the entire album would be great! :-)

I absolutely adore this song. Probably in my top ten Maiden tracks. Just a blast to listen to. A full Seventh Son listen seems a bit redundant, you've already listened to half the album. As it's clear you really like this album you should check out more from Somewhere In Time. It's the most similar in feel to Seventh Son, IMO, which makes sense since it's the one they made right before Seventh Son. My favorite is Powerslave, but then Seventh Son and Somewhere In Time are my second and third faves.

I was working in the bar at a music festival when Motörhead started playing. Was fortunate enough to hear Lemmy sing "the EIGHT of spades" repeatedly, just because he was bored! =)
