@@SirHairless I’m not positive but from what I’ve seen in their behind the scenes videos they are all given their own creative freedom on how they want to express themselves during their parts. I think Cesar is just the more likely one to look at the camera like that because of his personality. I really hope you get to see him off set sometime. He’s a fun, sweet and sassy charatcter for sure! The VoicePlayers fell in love with him on his first feature with the guys which was “We’re Good”. Please add that one to your recommendation list, it’s really great! 😁

That’s Cesar DeLaRosa. If you want to hear more of him, he is also prominently featured in VoicePlay’s covers of Creep, Dream On, In The Air Tonight, The Lion Sleeps Tonight and We’re Good. But he has a piece of everything they’ve done since he joined a few years ago. VoicePlay usually gives all the vocalists a featured moment or two in every song. It’s one of the things I love about them. 😊

You should check them out! They're amazing. You'll notice different members, some have come and gone. You may also want to check out the bass's solo channel, his name is Geoff Castellucci, the long haired gentleman in this video. "I See Fire" is a good starter. Something to mention, every man you see on the screen is Geoff, sometimes in costume, and every voice you hear is his. Just remember, for either Voiceplay or Geoff wear good headphones or use excellent speakers, watch videos to the very end, and enjoy!💙

This version always tears my heart out with Cesar so mournful. They filmed themselves separated throughout the house to accentuate the loneliness of the song. Geoff said they were all crying when singing, and he was in tears while editing. I think this is one of their best videos. If you want to see more of what EJ can do, please check out Voctave - they are sublime! A great example would be their Disney Princess Medley.

They did record a finale with all of them sitting outside on the porch with the sun setting behind them. Geoff chose not to use it; each one of them alone was the better aesthetic. Another visual, none of them looks at the camera. None except Cesar that is; he can't resist that one side glance. This is one of my favorites from them. For something a bit, well a lot more frenetic, try their version of their acapella version of In The Hall Of The Mountain King. Trust me.

It always amazes me (in a disappointed way, if that makes any sense) that this VoicePlay video doesn't have more views. I love the original by Bonnie Raitt, and this version certainly does the song justice - still heartbreaking, in a beautiful way. This is one of the few VP songs that I can think of where there is no beatboxing, just finger snaps - Layne joins in with the other members in singing, and while he doesn't really get a solo, his contribution is definitely heard. As the arranger, Geoff had pretty much total artistic control of the video, and chose to film everyone singing by themselves. He apparently had a final shot of everyone on the porch together, but decided against using it as he felt it would detract from the isolation he was going for with the video. A beautiful song and video, and a great reaction and analysis!

Voiceplay can do no wrong, in my opinion. Incredible analysis as always! Also, I really hope you will add Voctave to your list of groups to react to. They are PHENOMINAL! Their top soprano is for highs what Geoff is for lows. It's a larger group, more of an ensemble, but their musicality and technicality is pristine! I don't even know what to suggest for where to start. Like Voiceplay, literally everything they do is amazing! Also, again like Voiceplay, their arrangements are stellar!

E.J. is a regular with Voctave. They're a bigger a cappella group than PTX, VP or HF, but I love them. Maybe at Christmastime you might take a look at their "O Come, All Ye Faithful" on which EJ solos, or my favorite version of "Mary, Did You Know?" on which its lyricist, Mark Lowry, solos. EJ is among the group on that one. IDK, but they may be copyright protected. EJ's brother, Omar, also sings on occasion with VP. Check out their version of Aerosmith's "Dream On." I came back to this VP reaction today, 5/6, and realized what the man on TikTok had to say was a restatement and expansion of the meaning and words of this song. He said, and I quote, "You’ll never be enough for the wrong person, but you’ll never be too much for the right person. So never go out of your way to convince somebody to love you properly, because you are special. You are unique, and you are not meant to be with everybody."

Usually when I see your new r/a posts, I stop and grab my headphones straightaway. I saw this title this morning and reflexively hit my emotional breaks. I returned to your page periodically throughout the day… hoping I’d misread the song title. May I request a monthly limit (or at least only once weekly) to doing songs that actually give me chest pain?? And drag me right back to life moments like this one, so soon after Broken Vow? I’ve tried to comment twice on that, it was so beautiful, but just can’t form words. Bonnie Raitt’s performance, as in Lara Fabian’s , … well I just can’t separate the place these songs plunge me back in time to…decades.. the songs and the life experiences become forever entangled, intertwined. So if you could be so merciful as to spread songs like this a bit further apart, I’d be ever so grateful What saved me from it being any worse was the intermittent pausing and discussion. I was so struck by the placement throughout the house of each one in solitude. That was a brilliant decision for this piece. Ok, gah, and now it’s time for something completely different! As always....love watching your brain process what you're hearing..and then hearing your analysis is even better. I i can see your eyes accessing things in your brain if that makes sense?? You catch so much more than so many other analysts that are super talented themselves. Do you have perfect pitch?Synesthesia? ...or what do you attribute your musical attention/ability to?

Thank you Haha thanks for the question! I don't have perfect pitch, but instead have relative pitch (which is defined by everyone differently and I believe comes at different 'levels' / on a spectrum) The synesthesia question is very interesting, and I'm not quite sure how to answer it tbh! I think it's a bit too objective in terms of definition; all I can say is I 'feel' the music and can't really describe how Not a very helpful answer I know, sorry! In terms of attention/ability though, every musician excels at a different area. I spent a lot of my free time growing up trying to learn things by ear at the piano, and creating transcriptions of songs I liked, and then started doing arrangements. Also, a lot of my favourite music is from the Renaissance and Baroque periods - especially choral polyphony - so that probably helps listening out for different parts 🎶

I have so many notes! 1. Not to take away from anyone else because I really can’t pick a favorite in this group, I love them all so much. But Cesar is the MVP in this one. He does have such a beautiful voice but the way he expresses himself is equally as beautiful. Something I bet most people don’t notice... -No one looks directly at the camera in this entire video except Cesar at 14:15 here. I’ve noticed it in most of their videos, he finds a moment to look into the camera at us. Even if the other guys do it as well, it’s different the way he does it. Like he’s really looking into your soul. 2. I love the set choice for this video, they are all alone with their thoughts like you would be if going through what the song depicts. 3. I think this is the first time I’ve heard you audibly chuckle and it was during Eli’s solo. 4. EJ is also featured in Go The Distance which is also stunning. 5. I literally can’t wait for you to react to Voctave. 6. Yes, that was Layne you picked out singing.
