Fun fact: In the movie Titanic, they tried to find actors that could play that scene authentically. In the end, they didn't and just asked the quartet that played the soundtrack to do the scene.

The band is I Salonisti, and the band leader is played by Jonathan Evans-Jones (a violinist that does some acting too.) The quality of that film just amazes me. Actual musicians in a film! James Cameron really did his homework. I found a clip where I Salonisti members talk about the experience: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5-2gqKopJmthZo

I can imagine it might have felt quite a privilege to be able to honour the Titanic's musicians in that moment. And wouldn't have needed much 'acting' anyway!

I was kinda bummed they put 'Whiplash' as a C, esp considering it's one of my fav modern films. Sure i heard some jazz musicians criticize it paints jazz conductors or schools in a negative assumption about them but I think they are forgetting that 1. it's still a dramatized film, and 2. the director actually did come from a jazz school so it's not like he's basing it off nothing.

Brett and Eddy wern’t disputing the actors’ musical talents, just the really, really poor scripts and storyline. The acting is pretty terrible as a result, at least the main actress - so much one dimensional moping and drawn-out looks into the distance. I hated her character - she was so wet with no redeeming features. It took me a lot of effort to get through the series. So I stand with Twoset in their ranking.
@dramarei.1

@@The-Wordsmith That is such an honest opinion! Outside of the fanaticism and affection that you may have for a series, you must admit your mistakes, and the script was poor and even some scenes are exaggerated, the hard work of the actors is understood, but the thing is to do a "job well done" or that it looks passable, knowing that you are interpreting musicians.

Every time I see that scene from Amadeus I'm reminded of the fact that I've been in the palace where that scene was filmed and it is absolutely beautiful. I went there with my choir and we sang in one of the larger rooms. It has the most marvelous echo to the point that our conductor had to slow us down so much just to account for it. If you can I definitely recommend visiting it. It's in Czechia and I believe it's a museum.

Do you like Brahms is supposed to be representative of Korea's conservatory realities and how professors/conductors like to abuse their authority and connections in all kinds of ridiculous ways - including but definitely not limited to passive-aggressively forcing students to attend all their recitals, buy them celebratory gifts, carry their luggage around, etc. etc. not to mention all the verbal/mental abuse that's just taken as a "given," a "rite of passage," and even an "honor" and an "obvious cost" that comes with studying under such "wonderful teachers"

So out of curiosity I actually went and watched a few episodes of Do You Like Brahms, and I think it deserves much better than a D. That douchey conductor is kinda unrealistic, but isn't impossible in Asia. It's more of a device to introduce dramatic conflict and set up the male lead meeting the female lead. The orchestra playing was actually very realistic. And the cringey "I love you violin" part is done deliberately, cuz *SPOILER WARNING* the dude in that scene wants her, so he kinda made her say that on purpose.

About Salieri, for you peeps that doesn’t actual know or listen to his music, he is quite good. He taught Beethoven, Schubert and Listz, and his concertos for piano and the Trio concerto for violin oboe and cello are on the same level IMO with most Mozart concertos. He was also most likely quite close to Mozart as Mozart’s wife sent their young son to learn music under Salieri

@@adaliaalvarez7269 yeah and in addition, i think i am right on this, that when Mozart was dying and writing the Requiem Salieri was in London conducting Mozart's symphonies, which might not sound like a big deal now but at the time Salieri was widely considered as one of the best of his time and Mozart was a literal no body. Which just goes to show that Salieri most likely are close friend with Mozart. It is rumored and perhaps confirmed that he wrote many positive reviews for Mozart's pieces and got him a few opera commissions.

For context to the scene from Whiplash 0:21, the piece they were playing was in 7, so the conductor chose to count the ensemble in with "5 6 7" instead of "1 2 3 4" like with a piece in 4/4. I agree that violence in rehearsals is wrong, but in the context of the movie itself it makes for a great villainous turn from the conductor and the ensuing drama that comes from this scene makes this movie one of my favorites despite all of its inaccuracies with the music world itself.

They still played great, even considering that!

For the scene from Chicago Med, Torrey DeVitto had one week to practice and picked the Bach Double because she knew she could get it up to speed in that time. She played in a high-level youth orchestra, but had not practiced regularly in some time when the scene was shot. That happens to match the description of her character's experience on the violin, so what you hear is exactly what one would expect her character's playing to sound like.

@olliepops1124
@olliepops1124 2 жыл бұрын
Worth mentioning that you’re hearing Corigliano’s composition and arrangement in The Red Violin, and Joshua Bell is the soloist making those sweet sounds. I assume the instrument itself’s one of a few possible candidates, yet all of which are Strad instruments from his “golden period” of builds. There is actually a famous red Stradivarius, but I never heard of it being affiliated with Corigliano or Bell. It’s still a possibility considering the film is loosely based on that specific violin (think it was famously Mendelssohn’s, but I don’t know it’s owner or whereabouts now). Not sure when Bell acquired the famous Huberman Strad (the one he plays to this day, I believe), but I am leaning towards it being a bit after this movie. The most likely contender to me would have to then be another one built in the 1730s Bell briefly had before his current instrument. I remember it was also responsible for the top-tier performance by a young Patricia Travers of the Brahms Violin Concerto.

I would have liked to see a reaction to the scenes in Master and Commander (2003) where Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany play violin and cello. They learned how to play from scratch for their roles, but in the end were dubbed over by professionals. The scenes are very moving. I would like to know your opinions of the dubbing, as well as how realistic the motions of the two actors appear. Remember that in the story they are supposed to be two amateurs simply playing for their own amusement --- in which case it would be unrealistic if they were too good.

i understand that you guys have the right to have opinion on things but it's just a shame to see u give rank on something you havent even finished watching. also it's a pity to see professionals "put" shame or laugh at a creative work just because you think it's cringy. do you like brahms was written by a violinist named ryu bori. she was guided in the process by professionals such as son yeul eum, cho seungjin, and even was able to cast the child prodigy, Ko Sohyun. The korean classical community even commended the two main leads for performing and doing most of the performances on their own without doubles despite them not having any classical music backgroundㅡ they practiced endlessly and tirelessly for almost 6months to perfect their scenes. do you like brahms was a melodrama which means it heavily emphasizes on character's emotions. your opinion would have even made sense if you have watched all the scenes where they are actually playing the instruments. maybe you found that i love yous for the violin scene a very cringy one but it gave so much depth to the story of the character. but then again, i cant blame you if you cant put sense to that very emotional and beautiful scene. we're all different. i know. anyways, i dont care about classical music and the people behind such great musical pieces not until do you like brahms. for those watching this video and happened to read my comment, give do you like brahms a chance. It's a healing yet painfully realistic story of two beautiful souls reaching for their dreams. ☺️
