i have never heard Chopin played so slowly, and with such passion and sensitivity. This is by far the best recording (of his preludes) that I have ever heard.

I prefer to say that the phrases breaths rather than slow :}

Incredible, every single note says something. I'm grateful for recordings, the Maestro is not immortal...

Sokolov recording of the Chopin preludes is excellent. Different from the classical Arrau recording, it compares in the sobriety and perfection of the playing. The rendering of prelude 15 (Raindrops) is sentimental and delicate. An historic recording. Thanks Classical Experience for uploading.

First piano show I attended was with Sokolov, started crying when he played Raindrops, spectacular.

I've never heard these preludes like that! My father like very much Rostropovitch and called him the MAESTRO, Sokolov is another one, my maestro!

Are most preludes 'adagio'? I prefer 'adagio' and 'sonata' and am looking for more terms to narrow my searches. Suggestions needed, please. I love nocturnes, as well.
@opus-433 жыл бұрын
Preludes are not necessarily "adagio" (i.e. slow or literally "at ease" in Italian). They can be in all kinds of speeds and characters. I would suggest you search for "[piano] trio," "[piano or string] quartet," and "quintet" so you can find works that are similar to sonatas, but with more instruments (3-5 instruments, in this case). Searching "sonata adagio" can help you find Adagio movements from different sonatas, as well! KZbin gives me some beautiful ones by Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, and others.

@@opus-43 thanks!!! I have found John Fields, Scriabin, and Bortkiewitz...and am liking them a lot. I prefer the solos, but will look up your suggestions.
