One of my all-time favorite fighters. I played the arcade version through GameTap back in the early 2000's, and i just fell in love with it. A few months back, i had the chance to buy the limited edition version of the Saturn game with the artbook and diorama, and i just knew i was springing for it. One of my prized items in my Saturn collection.

The Arcade version of this game is actually supported on Fightcade. And you can totally play it online against other people with GGPO! I really don't understand why this game wasn't pushed hard in the US, it's a really solid fighter with both familiar and unique gameplay elements. It could have been huge, and seen sequels, just feels odd that such an awesome game was a one off.

So much good Capcom stuff for the Saturn that didn't get Western releases, such a crime. I encourage everyone who will listen to collect imports if they are intent on collecting retro games, just so much more for your money.

That is true. Almost all the saturn games are japanese. Example pazeer dragoon saga 350 American version vs 28 for japanese version. Definitely lower cost to collect for

Why didn't it get a US release? Because Bernie Stolar, he who gave the Saturn an early death, would not bring good games like this to the US Saturn. X-Men Vs. Street Fighter (WITH tag team mode,) Radiant Silvergun, SIlhouette Mirage, Thunder Force V, etc. etc. etc. All held back thanks to Bernie.

***** Nintendo of America have to be sure there's a demand before they commit to selling it in the US, or investors will call them out on foolishness. A petition with a ton of signatures is a good justification of demand. Content translations are another expense on top of development, and some cultural things don't translate at all or are even illegal, so there may have to be some content re-imagining / re-contextualization on top of that. The demand must be high enough to surpass costs and certain profit margins.

***** On the contrary, the Wii U did have some launch titles. They weren't as many or coming in as thick as other platforms, but there was content, and fairly good quality stuff at that. Also, to continue to the contrary, it's better to have long periods of "nothing" with consistent community engagement (e.g. Nintendo Direct) than to release many under-performing products in the same period, especially if you have a large fan-base and a reputation to uphold. Investors did call out Nintendo on the Wii U's under-performing sales at launch, but they have since picked up, and the numbers (as of today) rest about a million units above the Xbox One, which apparently achieved their original expectations. Nintendo aren't doing badly, and Reggie runs NOA the way any smart guy in his position would: cautiously, with an eye on product quality and its apparent demand.

I used to play a robot game in arcades that had these robots in it. It was a kind of adventure beat-em-up game instead of fighting, but I totally recognize all these. You could keep switching out your robot pieces for new ones as you used up ammo or they got beat up. I wanna play that again now..

As Mark loves this game I imagine he'd also love two related games: Armored Warriors for the arcades (a side-scrolling mech beat-em-up that Cyberbots is a sequel of) and Tech Romancer for the arcade and Dreamcast (DC version has added content), a full 3-D mech fighting game also produced by Capcom. As an added bonus, the DC version includes the Blodia II (the "main unit" of Cyberbots here) as a secret unit! Of all three games, Tech Romancer is my personal favorite. Lots of references/homages/parodies of classic mecha anime like Mazinger-Z, Getter Robo, Gundam, Macross, and more. The mech designs are all done by the legendary Shoji Kawamori, of Macross fame. Unlike Cyberbots, Tech Romancer WAS brought over to the US!

I feel this game came to be because of the Gundam fighting game series, as well as Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition. Both of which were made by Bandai. I guess Capcom wanted to do their version of a 2D mecha fighter.

I like the akuma (gouki) robot art that they put int the special edition. Could be a prototype for the marvel vs street fighter boss cyber akuma(gouki). Don't know if u guys notice while lordkarnage was flipping through the art book.

Fun fact: The giant robot Bloodia from this game appears in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, assisting its pilot Jin Saotome, who does most of the fighting. I guess they didn't think it'd be fair to have something giant-robot sized facing the cast of Street Fighter. []

I remember seeing this game at an arcade around '97/'98. very kool arcade fighter. The Sega Saturn was a 2-D powerhouse compared to the Playstation.

Nintendo made a fighting game for the nes to sort of compete with Street Fighter 2 at the time. It was just an experiment though. The game is called Joy Mech Fight. I suggest everyone go check that out. It's pretty neat. Also there's an English translation out there and people do make repro carts of it.
