I do love the look and feel of the old Toaplan shmups. I prefer the space shmups to military, but they all seem cool. I may have to do my own comparison of this one compared to the Genesis version, if only to have an excuse for a Toaplan binge.

PC Engine, highly underrated and really really tiny games (the Hucards). Always liked the colorful pallets in a lot of the games.

I need to get this and twin cobra on the PC engine. The PC engine port of Truxton also looks delicious but goes for over $300 so it's out of my range.... I love my PC engine though, fantastic system if you love shoot em ups!

i think the genesis version is better, because the blown up tank leave craters there which really adds to the atmosphere. you can see the carnage you caused - mark - i thought you'd love that. 😎

I got the Hucard version of Daisenpu, I heard it is better than the SuperCD version called Daisenpu Custom. Not sure why but usually if there is a 2 versions, Hucard & SuperCD versions.....the Hucard version is better...

I believe the PCE Super CD version stripped the game of the chip-tunes and instead supplied a red-book audio soundtrack. I've also read the levels were broken into sectioned areas as opposed to continuous and some of the backgrounds were either downgraded or missing. But it adds a few extra bosses. Personally, I settled with buying the Mega Drive version and think it looks and sounds the best. It's all up to personal tastes.

Yay. CRT footage looks excellent. I want to borrow my dad's Gopro to do 4K 60fps CRT capture, framed so it's cropped just right and you can see the phosphors a bit. The future of CRT gaming is KZbin on LED/LOL. Next project to start a CRT TV factory. Must contact Musk...

Well, no one expects Twin Hawk or any other game to even approach Cosmic Carnage on 32x in terms of quality. That's just unrealistic. When you're talking Cosmic Carnage, you're talking Game of All Time. It doesn't get any better than that. Why, I've even heard reviewers claim that Cosmic Carnage obliterates Ocarina of Time in terms of quality .

Pc engine is so lame, besides bomberman , castlevania rondo of blood and Ys almost every other game is a shoot em up or a generic platformer, for people that dont care about shmups it is terrible

I'd call you a hater, but for the most part you are right. Unless you are into shmups, it's library is kinda limited. It also doesn't help that very few of the PC Engine's RPGs were released in English.

I only partially agree with you, my favourite tennis game is on PC Engine. Also Bonk is other-worldly, can't be calling that game generic by any means :)

Somewhat related, but I do feel similar to the Dreamcast, and it always seemed like arcade port the system (not to surprising considering how many games use Naomi at the time), but even then it doesn't really have a ton of exclusive or at the very least exclusives that weren't ported elsewhere like Crazy Taxi or Sonic Adventure 1/2.
