Ben has a lot of moves, but this clip shows that the act of carving and grinding can be a hell of a thing. Sam Hitz introduces a classic from the 1990 Gullwing video.

That was the turf in milwaukee wi. They filled the bowls in and had a street park for a bit in he 90s then closed. My gold membership was like 14 buks. Its a fuken freeway exit now. R.I.P. Turf

Salba Wax for sure on that coping....P.S youngin's you aren't going to get grinds like that on some poor excuse for a truck(s) like a pair of tensor's or Royal's. back then you had Tracker,Indys,Gullwing, & Thunders were new to the scene. Indys & Thunders are still around. Hmmm, wonder why?

thunders hand to god grind a CUT above on metal to metal. Sure thats outside the pool coping realm. But im sure since that standard was set other companies have worked towards different hanger material/blends to offer some "Street" truck. Idk i never rode stuff like silver/phantom/grind king back in the day. But hanger profile/contact does help change how certain trucks grind on hard/crete/granite vs metal to metal like rails/ledges/ebox. Cross hanger nose grinds or smith grinds too. But Idk once you skate tranny you wind up gravitating to w.e lets you skate the fastest land the worst/live/survive the best when trying to piece together lines/tricks/combos, IMO. If skaters ever really get into hitting everything at the park. Ive tried titanium thunders and they are pretty nutty popping in some cutty/bank wall ditch type spots. Makes a setup feel like youre riding a board .5" smaller for trick response but you still have your actual size. Or popping to a high bank wall ledge etc that you have to carve/ride into. But you still feel like youre cheating the system/skating. And for bs airs hollows give no board feel. If you havent try an 8.8 or 9.25 with some venture 6.1s and tell me the ollie no grab BS air blast feel isnt a new gold standard.

ventures were barely on the scene in 1990 when this video was made. Out of Indy,Gullwing, tracker, thunder, & venture, ventures by far were the shittiest quality truck at the time (well maybe Z-Rollers if you consider those a truck, lol) ventures put "slip-axle" on the map. Before ventures, slip axle was virtually non-existent. Which made room for Krux to coin the term "guaranteed no slip-axle" in 95-96, which set the standard for truck quality from then on.

damn venture 6.1s powerslide easier than 159 standards, and are better for bs/fs airs and half cab/cab variations. I even like them for cross hanger/tweaking nose grinds/crooks. Ive been riding indy and tried a lot of stuff growing up. But i hate to admit how much i like ventures for a specific/quiver setup. Even the way they slide help for slappys from 159s. Id like to see some 9.25" ventures NGL. Hell thunders making 10" axle now and ppl are crying about indys being MIC. Im still running all the stage 9/X baseplates ive had over the years and conical bushings only. Its already nuts to me that some ppl only know the stage XI as skaters or only skate barrel bushings with indy, im not hating just its so nuts to see that its just a basic/standard to them of familiarity. The turn/lean/slasher initiation vs old indy feel. Its not a territory they ever knew or care about. So its why im glad to see more competition in the larger hanger/axle truck option or that theres a trend now in riding shaped boards/slappy setups. Im still breaking in my first set of Stage XI indys and theyre mids already had to swap to conicials bc of the level of death they led to.
