When he had his 1st knee surgery out of college they gave him about 5 years. In 1970 the injuries began and it was down hill for the jets. 71 Mike Lucci intercepts a ball in preseason and Namath is out till the 12th game with another injury. In 72 he has a pro bowl season, in 73 hurt again, 74 he bounces back and has a great 2nd half of the season with the Jets winning 6th straight. After that the water skiing accident in 76 and he was a sitting duck for the rest of career.

This was the 1st game of a new decade and the start of how the officials would be screwing the Jets over to this day. These were times when a holding penalty was 15 yards and the Jets had like 7 of them that night 13 penalties for 161 yards give me a break.
