Vikings defensive line would get overwhelmed. 73 Dolphins with Csonka and 76 Raiders with Upshaw and Shell just ran it down there throats. Vikes dline just not stout enough. 74 Steelers fantastic defense and the game was never in doubt. 69 Vikes were the best no way they should have lost but Stramm did his homework and out coached Grant.

Frank Tarkenton offered the media-broadcast era of sports (football) something interesting --- ambition romance (really!). The 1973 season was the kickoff to his Super Bowl daydreams/heartbreaks; this is a fantastic American football-season gem/history; thanks for the upload. The only other team/season I can think of with 'real' American metaphysics-value(s) is perhaps the Eagles Super Bowl LII season (modern era). Very cool,

What the hell are you talking about? And who is Frank Tarkenton? Your butcher? What is the media-broadcast era? Is this referring to what supplanted the media-pony express era? Nevertheless, I find your post delightfully cryptic and dadaistic.

The Vikings have a great chance this season to grab a Lombardi, especially if the Eagles somehow falter along their path. Season (complete season) team vids are ALWAYS educational (hmm)!

The vikings were a "excellent fine tuned juggernaut" that consintly chewed up opponents year after year after year, goodness they were damn good.

What happened with the purple jerseys ? No sleeve stripes till week 8, then back-and-forth for a few weeks with even a mixed showing vs. Redskins then no stripes vs. Cowboys. No matter what, they still looked better than Musberger's jacket. What a great team, un-til...

For all his talents, Bud Grant always muffed coaching for the Super Bowl; however, the Super Bowl isn't the most important game of a season, it's just the last. The year-long slog of winning should count for more than just the final game of the season.

Wonder how they played so well in NFC championship against good teams, and fall flat in every Super Bowl.

That has and will remain one of the most intriguing questions in football , Edward. The simpletons will say they played better teams. From an x 's and o's point, you can say their O line could not block. That led to their anemic offensive out put which in turn kept the defense out on the field all day. ( we saw what happened in the last 3 games ). At the very least, they should have competed. It was said " something crazy happened to the Vikings on Super Sunday".Just when it seemed ready to get their heads above water, they were hit with a tidal wave. It was , and still is a sad thing to see their Superbowl "performances". PS...The weather, had absolutely nothing to do with it btw.

@@6400az this SB Miami's offensive line had the perfect game plan vs marshall and page but like every SB the offense stunk. Also Vikings KOs as usual were poor. Can't give good teams primo field position..and turnovers.. ohhh those horrible turnovers and fumbles . Charlie West, Oscar reed, bill brown, Brett McLanahan.. SMDH. Every team lined up a big body over tingelhoff and neutralized him. He could not pull out and lead sweeps or trap block FTMP..

@@victorsforza6213 Hey Victor. Yes, correct. SB 8 was the very 1st time the Vikings defense was truly exposed. As they say the NFL catches up real quick. Their mad dash to meet at the QB was used against them in a way never seen before. Personally, I did worry about Brockington and Lane getting their fair share of yards, but was totally not prepared for the shellacking Csonka and co. administered. I recall all those turnovers ,absolutely devastating.!!...in the last 3 SB;s they fumbled at or inside the 5, 3 times. Charlie West fumble was at the 19 but led to the toss 65 play. To this day, I truly cannot believe the play of the Vikings O-line.....especially in SB IV. Not once have I ever seen such an ass kicking.......🤕

@@6400az Somehow Bud Grant was never able to prepare his teams properly for the Super Bowl. They shouldn't have been so thoroughly humiliated by teams that they were competitive against in the regular season. The Vikings whipped the Chiefs 27-10 in the 1970 season opener after losing to them in the Super Bowl. In 1972 the Vikings led Miami late and only lost because a roughing the passer penalty kept the Dolphins game-winning drive alive. Something is wrong when your team loses by a combined 51-0 in the first halves of four Super Bowl games.

@@phineoustrout2899 The problem was Grant he refused to accept that the SB was any different than any other game and all the AFL and AFC teams knew it was far bigger than any ordinary game . Grants coaching had absolutely no adjustments to how the game on the field was playing out either . Grant was a great coach until the SB then he just had nothing to offer .
