Bonanza is an American western television series that ran on NBC from September 12, 1959, to January 16, 1973. Lasting 14 seasons and 431 episodes, Bonanza is NBC's longest-running western, and ranks overall as the second-longest-running western series on U.S. network television (behind CBS's Gunsmoke), and within the top 10 longest-running, live-action American series. The show continues to air in syndication. The show is set in the 1860s and it centers on the wealthy Cartwright family who live in the vicinity of Virginia City, Nevada, bordering Lake Tahoe. The series initially starred Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker and Michael Landon and later featured (at various times) Guy Williams, David Canary, Mitch Vogel and Tim Matheson. The show is known for presenting pressing moral dilemmas.

I visited President Eisenhower's retirement ranch at Gettysburg, it's a Federal Mueseum now ,on the back porch was a painters stand and a little zenith t.v. . Eisenhower never missed Bonaza while painting,he was a huge fan. I never forgot that.

Seeing the gentle kindness of Hoss in this and other episodes, makes me wish they had written up a wife and family for him at least. Such a waste not having families for them, Ben with grandchildren! Their legacy and the Ponderosa passed on. Something other than endless violence. I grew up watching this show, so I know it wouldn't have turned people against it. In fact, even back then, people got tired of almost every romance ending in death or something unfavorable about the woman. 🤷‍♀️

I've watched Bonanza since I was about 6yrs old, in the 60s. We would start that Sunday, in Sunday school, then church, and afterwards most Sundays go to our play-grandmama's house, play awhile, and by late evening we would be around her tv, watching Bonanza. I think what I loved most was their beautiful technicolor, where the colors were so deep, like in movie theaters. The only other shows I had seen, in that era, were Bible stories, like 10Commandments, and I loved all those movies, too. There were 3 of us sisters, and we all picked which Cartwright sons were our boyfriend. My two older sisters picked Adam and Joe. I was the baby so I felt I should have Joe, since he was the youngest, too. Also because Michael Landon was too fine, for words. But being outnumbered by age, I accepted Hoss, and I did find he had a heart of gold, and I really loved him. Loved the entire cast, and so thankful for technology where I can watch anytime, now, and not have to wait for Sunday night. Thank you.

I found it interesting when I was watching an episode of Little House Prairie, and this young man, about 15yrs old, very handsome, and with the sweetest disposition, playing a guest role. His face looked, so familiar, and I kept watching to see if I could pinpoint who he was. Finally I just looked at the credits, and his name was Dirk Blocker, and I instantly said Hoss's son. And all the time watching it I would think of him as Lil Hoss, because he's the spitting image, of him Even his behaviour, was so gentile, like his dad. The part he played had a couple sad moments, in it, and he played it, with his heart, like just being a natural person, that he actually brought tears to my eyes, like he was really hurt, and in the end I was happy because he was happy. You have a wonderful family tree.❤

The way they treated the Chinese man it remind me of what I learned today that those people that go to church on Sunday are offended by the cross of Jesus! But the preacher was talking about unbelievers not “ not, I go to church person!” They don’t understand the cross and believe they are better then others because of their back ground and skin color, don’t they know that God created ALL man! So much violence and killing. The show starts off right away with 2 gangster thieves shooting several guys and they walk away scott free. I enjoyed this show as a kid but now realize just how violent western shows and movies really are. The wild lawless west sure must have been rough and wild in reality. But this is a good show for the entertainment value with a twist of humor to it with great actors. Bonanza was among one of the most popular western shows back in its heyday.
