Two different songs with the same rhythm, Comme D'Habitude expresses sadness, failure, and anguish (as usual) on the contrary My Way represents pride, honor, and resiliency: "Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew when I bit off more than I could chew, but through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out, I faced it all, and I stood tall and did it my way

The stunning performance of My Way by Yesult 💖 at the closing Olympic ceremonies brought me here. My Way has been my life credo. Upon reading comments on various pages of Yesult's performance, I learned about Comme d`habitude. You broke it down wonderfully! I saw Yesult"s original performance on a French talent show, and she sang Comme d'habitude! I find it interesting that Yesult sang My Way at the Olympics and wonder how that came to be? It seems that it has stirred a lot of controversy. I have received an education on the history of these songs with very different meanings but both incredible! As a plus, I'm learning a bit of the beautiful French language. Thank you for your explanation! 💖💖⭐️🎶✨️

Claude François sang the music composer's song on the condition that he got to write the lyrics. He drew from his failed relationship. He later made his version of December 1963, Cette Année-là, where he celebrated the year he broke through to become a hit, 1962.

My Way was written by Paul Anka as a farewell song for Frank Sinatra. He told Anka he was considering retiring from show-business at the time. I find it so interesting that Paul Anka managed to turn this very sad song when you look at the lyrics into this powerful celebration of life basically.

That's the meaning behind the song Comme d'Habitude by Claude François The song was about his relationship and break up with France Gall (Famous French female singer). They were together when France Gall was young (18) and wasn't famous yet. Basically she was a nobody. When she won the Eurovision song contest, the very night while the show was live, Claude François picked up his phone after the vote results and before the encore asked France Gall to choose between him and her career. He couldn't stand that she becomes famous and reached the same level as him. Basically he was giving her an ultimatum asking her to not do the encore bound to happen only a few minutes later live at the Eurovision and to kind of renounce that victory. So basically France Gall had to deal with the Eurovision victory and Claude François breaking up with her at the same time live on TV in front of hundreds of millions of people. She obviously didn't cave to that blackmail, managed to find her composure and did the encore and her victory led her to a very successful long career. Basically that's a song intended to France not to talk about his new routine but as he regretted breaking up with France. A couple of years later a famous song writer visited Claude François at his home and he complained that he never had written a song for him yet but wrote for other singers. They composed Comme d'Habitude that day. Claude François wasn't a really nice guy. I prefer that version of the song because indeed you feel all the emotion and frustration. You have the feeling that Claude is not singing but talking to you. We can connect more with the song and the lyrics add to the dramatic tone and story telling. My Way is also great and is more about a man talking about his life journey while at the end of it.

Your interpretation is just that… it could be interpreted in a very different way. They pretend but who says they are not happy they may just pretend because they long for a life more in sync with each other. There is no mention that “he works hard” “so that she can enjoy herself “, this is pure speculation, she could very well “work hard” too. And she doesn’t go in HIS bed but THEIRS… I have heard that song all my life, growing up in France, and Claude François was a big star, with many feminine conquests, he had a vey very large feminine audience completely head over heels about him, and this song had many interpretations possible depending on who was giving it, when, and in which magazine/radio (tv: only a couple of channels then). It would be a mistake to believe your interpretation is “the one”

The words are quite simple even cheesy. I don't understand how it became popular. The music maybe because the lyric writer wrote like a child. Simplicity, plain. My Way has a real meaning about life and is well written by someone with vast songwriting skills-Paul Anka.

It's strange because I feel the total opposite. I feel so much power and strongness through the lyrics of "comme d'habitude". As a french person, I discovered recently the "my way" version, and listening to the lyrics, I felt like it lose so much emotion, I mean it's a sad song but I had the feeling that it's just simple and naÏve words, and losing so much passion. Well maybe, it's just a feeling because of our respectives native languages.
