This is the perfect song for someone who has been in a relationship with a covert narcissist. Word for freaking word.

Perfectly describes that moment when you know they are drifting away and you know its over but still love the other person deeply desperately hoping the train wreck you know is coming wont happen and you ride it all the way to the end not knowing still desperately hoping you can somehow save the relationship.
@anthonymangino96623 жыл бұрын
It's a beautiful tragedy from the very first moment of divine madness. I've been ponderous of the question..Is our perception of love a mere projection. That's why when people say you must love yourself to love another. If that's ever a question it's already answered. If you've crashed on the rock's after following the sirens beckoning of your heart. It was after all your desire that brought you there. So anyone who has been in love and questioned whether it was an illusion. If you felt it then there is no question. The answer still brings little solace only clarity that you are that love and everything is a mirror. Where does love go when she's gone? What was always remains it just changes in form , still energy can never be destroyed. The Origin of the energy I believe to be our soul which is eternal and infinite so is love...One in the same.. Contrast creates perceived definition. Ying Yang..On and on.

I love this song, one of my favorites off of Achtung Baby. This album had a lot of creativity put into it and So Cruel is a perfect example. It has a simple catchy melody (which was made almost spontaneously during a listening of recording demos) and Bono compliments it nicely with lyrics about how love and jealousy can corrupt people, and how one can use that corruption to manipulate their lover into getting what they want in their relationship. However, they're too corrupted to ever be satisfied with the results, which, just like a lot of songs off of Achtung Baby, is something a lot of people can relate to experiencing. This is one of the many reasons why Achtung Baby is my favorite U2 album.
@U2SaxFan8 жыл бұрын
Right. When the band was listening to the early recordings of the album, they started jamming and they came up with the music, and then Bono instantly came up with the brilliant lyrics. That's part of why I love this song.
@U2SaxFan8 жыл бұрын
I agree. The lyrics in here are some of the deepest and darkest lyrics Bono's ever written. At the time the band was recording Achtung Baby U2's guitarist, The Edge, and his then wife, Aislinn O'Sullivan, were separating, and Bono was inspired by the pain and turmoil they were going through to write these lyrics, along with other internal problems the band members were having at the time.

This album stands out because it is an inflection point of sorts, stylistically speaking, which probably gives it more credence and weight as an album. This song, So Cruel, is one of my top-3 U2 songs of all time; it might even be my all-time U2 favorite. But as their albums go, Joshua Tree will always be their gold standard. That album is so good, and has so many great songs, it plays like a compilation album. The troika of Running to Stand Still, Red Hill Mining Town and One Tree Hill just cannot be matched--noticed I omitted the three most popular songs from that album.
@Beaches_south_of_L.A.7 жыл бұрын
Does your name imply you are bonkers for Bob Dylan? Anytime my mind wanders and starts thinking that Bob Dylan might be even good I just need to listen to something like interstate love song by STP. Them my brain gets recalibrated and goes oh yeah Dylan is complete crap comparatively. Haha. Neither of you have made any statements that anyone could make a strong argument against.. I do agree with dylanphile that one need only listen to Bono wail so passionately in with or without you that you can feel that emotion so vividly. Which leads me to the unforgettable fire when he belts out "they could take your life but they could not take your pride... " I get choked up everytime. Or.. if I could you know I would if I could I would let it go This desperation in temptation In condemnation revelation isolation let it go*... *(yeah I probably botched those a little bit)

This is perhaps U2’s most underrated song ever due to the fact that they stopped playing it live along time ago. If you have been in one of the relationships described in the song then you will know it’s true value and meaning, if you haven’t then you probably won’t get it. As you are traveling thru life experiencing and living and loving what it has to offer, at some stage you will come across a girl, perhaps she is ‘the’ girl, you met her at the right time of your life,late twenties early thirties something like that. She is a sensation, beautiful looking with an offbeat personality that is both exciting and captivating at the same time. But she is out of reach like that beautiful ripe piece of fruit far out on a limb of the highest branch. In order to get it will take great risk but the rewards are so high that it makes the danger worth it, besides the danger is worth it too because god damn it it makes you feel so alive, like a high speed motor cycle ride, you cannot afford to take your eyes off the road for one second. You then get the girl, you cannot believe it, this angel, this siren who sings from across the waves wants you and only you. You are floating above the clouds. You go to bed with her,kiss her,lie naked with her, you make love to her. Jesus Christ, this is what they were on about,all those poets and musicians. They were right. You are right. You have met her, found her and made her yours. The sex is out of this world, you are a sex God, you are when you with her. You spend every possible moment together ,two become one, buy the papers, never read a single word. There is no greater drug than this feeling of love and lust, powerful enough to light up whole cities. But then . .. Something goes wrong, the barest fissure in this impregnable love. The two people slowly start to come apart, the angle of separation is so slight it is barely noticeable at first but then it grows and to your dismay,this drug is not on the ready supply that it once was or is not as pure, so you need more, much more but you are getting less. Then bang, it’s over for whatever reason. Maybe it was too powerful to last, maybe she is nuts or damaged good due to a fucked up past that was initially disguised by her blinding beauty. You are left reeling, having lost the one thing that you wanted but you can’t have it, ever again, ya sure you meet others but they are only photocopies of what you had, a pale imitation. Nothing will fill this void, drink, drugs, sex or whatever you can think of or get your hands on, you go thru girls and break their hearts but you cannot help it as your heart is screaming trying to break out of your body. Eventually time is a bit of a healer and maybe you go on to do or be something but you know that maybe that was your high point, that was your cup final, the best part of your life is over Alas at least you did have a life once, yes you loved and lost but you did love and you got to taste the real thing. You were that god for a while that piece of heaven on earth. Ya anyway as I was saying, not a bad song lol. Peace

Hi sweetheart. I can tell you why a girl like that leaves a man, and leaves him dumbfounded and like a "fool". Exactly because you're so "captivated by the beauty" of this girl, so much so that you never reach the depths of her true person - the one beyond the captivating facade. She doesn't TRULY feel seen. And now you're objecting fiercely because "you treated her real good" - but that's not the problem or the issue. It has got nothing to do with that. It's the eternal problem of "captivating women"; that it's hard to find a man with the depth and maturity to encompass and appreciate all of her, not just her "exciting" sides and her sexy gorgeousness. You put her on a piedestal - and that's not what women really are looking for (believe it or not).... It's the eternal problem of men that you look for a goddess - all women inside know that they're not goddesses, even the really gorgeous ones - but they feel and know and have a yearning inside to be loved for who they truly are. This may sound like a banal cliché - but it really is true. Most men don't know how to love the woman for BOTH her beauty and her naked self, which is far beyond the "captivating exterior". Peace.

The truly great aspect of U2 is that they express idealism but with a bitter awareness of how humans are. As Jesus said, they are " wise as serpents, harmless as doves". They know how stubborn and cussed we can be, they don't rush in to make it all better with a religious salve. They acknowledge the failings, they can cut to the quick, especially in their take on relationships.
